    setting up a workshop costs

hi, i have done exactly what your proposing, here is my view on a few points, Have a work with some llocal builders/carpenters, ask where they get there joinery, ring a few up out of the local rag, where do they go, how often, rough price, are they happy, would they try someone new. trade is...

    Replacing interior doors and frames

Depends on how bad the frames are, can get old frames looking great with a bit of time spent and attention to detail. Shouldnt make any plaster damage if you knife around the architrave edges before removing, depending on the type of architrave

Anyone own a BOSCH GCM12GDL on here ?

I like the look of that, i have the gcm10sd and its been flawless for the last 3 years ish. But the swing around the back of the saw is huge, floorspace before i had it fixed on a bench was hoooge. Had to be setup properly though before use including getting the head square on the rails.

Making my own external door frame

Usually just mortice full jamb width or with setbacks if the mortice is in the rebate. If your worried about the screws pulling it away pack behind the frame or use window screws with a 6.5mm hole through the wood and building. The screw then holds the position of the frane as it screws...

    Wooden Garage Doors

I Am sure if you asked the likes of any of them they could get the redwood you need in to do the job. I find the smaller merchants better to deal with tbh. Or maybe a joinery shop could add the timber into there next order. Id probably go ex 100x75 Frame and door stiles/head of 110x45. mid and...

    Laserliner Moisture Meter

i would like to think that testing the meter on a known piece firstly, say a sample kept in the house, or workshop, then testing new stock should give you a relative moisture value to which you can decide the suitablility of use? Sort of like a reference piece. How much does the value alter...

    new sashes

i use silacyl (sovereign) its an acrylic sealant, that i bed the unit in with, then leave to set. it knives off really well to leave a crisp rubbery edge, it almost sticks the units in so seals really well, better than silicone, and is overpaintable. has to be dry, and frost free for quite a...

    new sashes

Ive tried the dryseal working for another joinery shop. Honestly didnt like it. How are you using it? Same way as single glazing putty? Or in conjunction with bead? I use beads on the outside, and have got no issues with it, could see there being issues with the likes of butyl putty and beads...
