Cut string staircase, is it the work of the devil?

Trying to visualise the drilling at the top of the spindles. This might be heresy, but is it something a kreg pocket hole jig could help with?

Cut string staircase, is it the work of the devil?

That’s a beautiful staircase. Based on no knowledge whatsoever, I agree with repairing what is needed rather than wholesale replacement of treads. Whatever you choose to do, it would be great if you could take some photos of the woodwork and the problems that lurk beneath.

How much and where to get Russian birch plywood grade BB/BB

I got some from Latham’s a few months ago that was good quality. You have to ask for the specific grade you want though.

    Folding boxwood rules... when?

I bought a Festool branded one last year, just because I saw someone using one on a YouTube video for making out sheet goods for ripping down (a bit like a panel gauge, but using your finger as the fence). My grandad also used to carry a boxwood one all the time. I loved playing with it as a kid.

    Gloves

Yes, nitrile has the best all round solvent resistance of the commonly available gloves. I get boxes of 100 disposable ones from amazon or eBay.

    think dovetails are hard?

Though this one is fanned the opposite (wrong) way. The visual appeal of the original joint is the way the rays fan out to the edge. Mad skillz though (as the kids say).
