    Bench Dogs collar

But then you wouldn’t have needed to buy all the different sizes ;)

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Yes, that’s how I laid it out. The radius on the points bears a suspicious resemblance to a WD40 can. I’ve always been fascinated with these shapes after my grandad showed me how you can roll a book across the top of a 50p piece.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

A low stool/side table for the living room made from some pine salvaged from a piano that had been skipped. I based the shape on an old Gibson plectrum I used to use as a teenager (the only genuine Gibson thing I could afford).

DIY Vertical Panel Saw Work in Progress (with pics) UPDATE!

Looks like the brackets on the back are hooked over the support, so the can easily be moved to other supports above or below.

    I like that a lot.

    Favorite YouTube woodworker

I’ve started watching Gid Joiner after it was mentioned here. He’s a terrifically down to earth bloke who shows you in as much detail as you need how a professional does day to day jobs. It’s all so relevant to the jobs I have to do round the house, I find it really useful. I also like his low...

    Dust extraction hose and fittings.

I made some recently from fizzy drinks bottles...look ugly, but free and work well. Just cut a cylinder from a coke bottle, put over the nozzles together and heat to shrink on.

Farmhouse style table - general advice requested!

Can the lipping on the ends not be end grain, i.e. crosscut so that the expansion and contraction is in the same orientation as the table top?

Festool & Dewalt Dust Extraction Hose

I’ve been looking for something like this since I got my domino. I was just in the shed taking some photos for a bodge I have worked out to address the Festool extraction connector problem (funny coincidence). I use a cheap Aldi wet and dry vac for dust extraction, but the hose doesn’t fit the...

    Footprint Planes.

I cambered the blade on an old wooden coffin plane the other day for use as a scrub plane. It was great, made flattening an old oak board a breeze compared to a normal plane. Totally emphasised to me the benefit of the correct tool for the job.

    Sanding Wood (Pine)

Yes, doing a bit of research the process seems to be photoinitiated oxidation of lignin, in other words, light kicks off the reaction with oxygen in the atmosphere. Both are necessary for the yellowing process. Hence why it happens only at the surface and is removed by sanding.

    Sanding Wood (Pine)

The ma8n effect on old wood is oxidation, but there is also a physical surface scattering effect that causes lightening of the surface. When you sand a surface, it becomes rougher on a microscopic scale. I know that is counterintuitive for your students :) . Light is scattered in all directions...

Any knowledgeable Hi-Fi Buffs out there?

Haha, was just about to make the sharpening comparison myself. Get an affordable (to your budget) pair of speakers from Richer Sounds and you won’t be ripped off. Q acoustics are a good brand, but other brands have speakers available from pocket money prices to ridiculously eye watering amounts

    Summer's arrived ...

Malta also has a problem with hunting and trapping songbirds on migration. I hardly saw or heard a single small bird when I visited The Amalfi Coast a few years ago. Very sad.

    F-Clamp with removable head?

Mine (from Aldi) have a little punched notch on the end of the bar that stops the threaded part coming off. I just filed it flush and the head just came off. I used it in dog holes in my beach like you described for your MFT.

    Curves

I’d recommend a flat bottomed one to start with as the round bottomed ones are harder to control. You can make concave curves with them despite the flat bottom.

    Curves

I love using a spokeshave and I’m totally cack handed.
