Wood gloat part 2 - Stacking (Pictures)

Those are beautiful. They remind me of a JMW Turner sky... Just put them in a frame and hang them on the wall!

    More wooden moulding planes...info needed

Didn't get a chance to use the planes today my time was taken up with more mundane stuff, however I found this request on a genealogy site that was very interesting to me because I only live 7 miles from Ivinghoe... "I am trying to find a link between Thomas OAKINS, baptised in Ivinghoe, Bucks...

    Gouge bits don't!!

Looking through some old tools I picked up yesterday (see my thread about moulding planes) and found this... Looks like what is described above?

    More wooden moulding planes...info needed

the cutters feel reasonably sharp even now dragging across my thumb and I don't think the guy I got them from had ever used them. Will see if I can hone them tomorrow, but I can't get the wedges out at the moment  Anyone got any tips for removing moulding plane wedges? Already tried...

    More wooden moulding planes...info needed

Thanks CC, I thought they looked quite old (judging on what was said on the recent Madox thread). I gave one to my son to hold and told him it might be 200 years old. He was gobsmacked! The blades don't look too bad either, I think I'll give them a go in some pine tomorrow if I can set them up...

    More wooden moulding planes...info needed

Picked up some old tools from a bloke locally who does renovation of old buildings. Still working through them, but there are three old moulding planes that look interesting. Any information about the makers or what type of moulding they would be used for would be appreciated: 1) T.Okines...

    Bench Hold Downs

Used my iron age workmate again today and I'm getting more and more impressed: You might notice the clever way I bored the holes at an angle so that I can clamp and unclamp easily by twisting the holdfast rather than hitting it with a mallet. Any suggestion that it was in fact due to my...

    Sharpening hollow punches?

These things are available for cork borers (used for boring holes in corks and bungs for lab work). Maybe there is something similar available for punches, or maybe you could make one yourself.

    Bench Hold Downs

Massively ahead of schedule... Had a bit of a revelation today and bored two 3/4" holes in the 4x2 that forms the top of my saw horse. Used the holdfasts to secure some 8' ply that I'm using to build some outhouse shelves. They worked a dream! This is exactly the sort of job that I would...

I'm sure the one pictured in the OP could be used to smoke crack

Wooden sheaves for rigging - what's being done at the end?

Posted the video in the other thread (https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/windy-miller-does-woodwork-t58580.html) and Belgianphil translated what they were talking about (halfway down the page).

A question for all those guitar builders out there

I think there are probably a few people making brand new '59 teles and trying to pass them off as such on ebay! There are certainly plenty of fake Gibsons. It seems every "boys toys" hobby out there has the same slope. Compare old/rare planes, guitars, guns, cars etc. We're all suckers!!

    Windy Miller does woodwork

And here they are "Makken Blokken"! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iAcoIpPPGo&feature=relmfu Anyone know what they're doing around 4:10 in? Some sort of weird finishing process??

A question for all those guitar builders out there

Some guitar players pay a considerable premium for a grubby fretboard! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Telecaster-Blonde-1959-Pre-Owned-/390391558618?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item5ae52671da#ht_2583wt_1185

A question for all those guitar builders out there

Look like you're not the only one looking for a UK guitar (UK-ulele?). I immediately thought of hornbeam, so had a look for any info on hornbeam fretboards and found this... https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/can-anyone-help-me-find-some-homegrown-hornbeam-t44702.html Seems laburnum or lilac...

    Removing rust from planes

Also for those wanting to use chemicals to de-rust larger items that you can't dip...you can soak a cloth in the solution, then wrap it around or place it on the tool. You can cover with cling film or plastic bags to stop it drying out.

    Removing rust from planes

For those wanting to go the electrolysis route, I've been using it recently to remove rust from some old tools. For small pieces I've been using an old phone charger as the power supply. I guess most people have a drawer full of these things. I just cut the phone plug off (at the end closest to...
