    Box hinges

Buy an old jewellery box from a charity shop for a pound, burn it, then use the hinges and screws! Simple.

    Carving

Great carving, really like the design and execution. Those sisters are scary! (As a teacher, it's not the first time I've said that)

I've had skilled company in the workshop today!

You can keep a lot of spiders in a box like that!

A newby Wadkin setup question from Australia.

You need to post 3 or 4 times to be able to post photos and do pms. Just bump this thread a few times and you should be able to attach photos no problem. Welcome by the way! Mike

    My Messy Workshop

That's nearly as messy as my shed. Can't fit a camera into mine to photograph it though!

    Castle Bed - Help Please!

Looks like there are two separate projects. First building a high riser bed which will need to be pretty structurally robust for safety. Then you can build the castle facade which needn't be so chunky (just like building a fancy set of shelves). You could always cheat and get a bed from Ik*a and...

    Recommendation for a simple PVR

Another vote for Humax 9300T. My Mom and Dad are both 80 and get on with it famously.

Proof that we don't really need those mega expensive tools

We just need £5000 of japanese woodworking tools and balls of steel! Great skills by the way.

    routing dog holes

I also use Richard's holdfasts with "sub-optimal" holes I drilled using a hand brace and spur bit. I quite like the way I can tighten and loosen the grip by rotating them in wonky holes.

Corro Dip - If you were wondering.....

A couple of notes on electrolytic rust removal from my experiments: You just need to put a salt of some sort into solution to allow the current to flow. Bicarb or washing soda will work. Table salt (NaCl) is less preferable as chlorine gas (toxic) can be discharged at the anode. You're...

    Paint that doesn't wear off?

All paints will wear off eventually, especially if they are in an abrasive environment (e.g. in close proximity to keys). Curing paints will stand the best chance of maximum durability. It sounds like you are thinking of a clear lacquer over a coloured base coat. Systems like this need to be...

    some tools i aquired

Knife definitely looks like the glazier's "de-puttying" knife I inherited from my granddad. If it has been used a bit you will see the back peined (?) over where it has been whacked with a hammer. I always thought it had leather sides to help prevent it cracking glass if put down carelessly.

    Dealing with dowelling

A quick search on Youtube for "how to make dowel" turns up plenty of options. Won't link because I'm not sure of the copyright status of the videos featuring UKW contributors. Drill and router table method looks good.

Excellent news on the biscuit front

Well worth posting this link... http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3803/anzac-biscuits I make these about once a week at the moment, they never get cool before they are gone. Definitely worth the 20 minutes they take to make!

    Removing small nails

Could use a neodymium magnet to find the nails (might be a bit tedious though). They're pretty useful for lots of things (e.g I use one to hold the spanner I need to adjust my table saw fence attached to the side of my table saw and I keep one in an old sock for finding small screws and drills...

    Wood gloat... plus ideas wanted!

Guitar necks! Maybe that's just me? 500 spice racks? Nice score by the way. Was it reclaimed from somewhere?

Help choosing a Tenon Saw please.

I recently re-cut the teeth and sharpened an old back saw for the first time. It goes from 12 tpi at the toe to 9 at the heel through 14 and 10 tpi in the middle (I think there are a couple of teeth at 13 tpi in there somewhere too)...Still cuts well though! So to answer Jacobs question above...
