Saws - don't go this low!

My father in law loves pound shops...he gave me a set of masonry drill bits once. About six months later I was putting a shelf up and I needed a drill bit...couldn't find my normal ones, so I gave those pound land ones a go. It looked lovely...even had a bit of red paint on the end and...

Saws - don't go this low!

I dropped into a cycling forum for a while recently as I was looking to buy a bike. They kept mentioning BSO...I had no idea what they were talking about, but it was certainly not complimentary. I dug around a little longer and discovered that BSO stands for Bike Shaped Object...something that...

What's the cheapest set of tools to fill a toolbox with?

Maybe a wooden plane would be better for a child as it is lighter and cheaper...although they are a bit fiddly to set up (mind you, so are metal ones) Hard point saws (like the Irwin ones) are cheap and pretty much guaranteed to be sharp from the start. Chisels - how low can you go?

Nobody says they are all the same...you're right the cheapo chisel would do at a pinch, I have heard plenty of people say that certain cheapo planes are unusable though. Yes, the example chosen was an extreme one to illustrate a point. Maybe we should have a cheapo toolbox thread...what's the...

Chisels - how low can you go?

Isn't the point here that chisels are pretty easy to make so the variation in quality from the cheapest to the most expensive is small? Planes are harder to make so the variation in quality from the cheapest to the most expensive is greater. If you are on a very tight budget then spending more...

    Flawless finish on picture frames

I think the post from CheshireChappy above is the way to go (especially if you have the time). You won't get a perfect flat flawless finish straight off the brush (or even from the spray gun)...the key is in the preparation (what lies beneath), abrasives and polish.

    Latest aquisition......

Yes, it had a spring...there are different types, but that is exactly the same as the one I used the other week.

You can call them up and blag some free samples for colour samples or wear resistance tests. I got six tiles 4"x4" which will keep me going for the next twenty years with guitar nuts

    Dirty Britain

Bloody hell...that's a bleak world view! You should get a subscription to the Daily Mail...it's right up your street! (Joke by the way...I'd not wish that on anyone)
