Repair to HiFi speaker veneer...advice needed

    Yes, that's what I thought...ouch! He wants a cheapish job and he's been quoted £180...if that's to re-veneer I don't reckon that's too bad (for that London!)

Repair to HiFi speaker veneer...advice needed

A friend has managed to damage his speaker by dropping it on the corner... Any thoughts on how to repair? Will he need a full replacement of the veneer? Approximate commercial cost? He is in that London...with a glum face!

New instrument WIP - this time, a ukulele - Now completed...

I love musical instrument WIPs. Thank you for being so honest about shortcomings and work arounds, it gives people the confidence to have a go themselves.

    Secondary glazing pondering

I put secondary glazing in my old house (ages ago) using some magnetic tape. Put some steel tape on the frame, then the magnetic tape on the glazing (I used Perspex). It worked well and meant I could remove the glazing easily to clean. It made the rooms warmer and helped eliminate draughts.

What effect does cold weather have on glues and finishes?

Anything that is water based will be sensitive to freezing. Some of the less sensitive ones may survive, but it is not worth the risk. Solvent based finishes and glues should be ok as long as you warm them up completely before use

What your TV licence money goes on..

I'm not a regular reader of the Daily Heil, but did they run a similar story about BBC blanket coverage when Maggie died?

Thanks for subsidising my viewing comrade :)

What your TV licence money goes on..

True, but the BBC does actually produce something positive (Sherlock, Luther, The Thick of it, endless Attenborough docs, QI, most of BBC four, Radio 4, Radio 6 Music etc.). I'd rather pay £3 a week for that than £60 a month for Sky and endless adverts, but I appreciate that many do not agree...

What your TV licence money goes on..

True...plenty of jollies at the Beeb. They brag about it too on their Radio 5 trails...sending presenters round the world at the drop of a hat. It is a gravy train. It's just I hate the Daily mail as much as they hate the BBC. I can't resist sticking the knife in. :D

What your TV licence money goes on..

"BBC sent THREE TIMES as many staff to cover Mandela death than all rival British broadcasters combined" Beautiful use of the English language  ...I'm sure that if this enmanglement of Her Majesty's English language had occurred on the beeb the Mail would have been having a go at them...
