    Advice on drawer runners needed

On a general point, Blum really get lost in detail in their on line literature. They are so keen to tell you the amazing engineering quality and features, they bury the information that you want. This is what i finally found out after hours of searching... Tip on = push to open, no handle...

    Advice on drawer runners needed

Just looking at the photo and I realise the drawer runners are both the same, just the top one has no decorative front. Funny how explaining a problem helps you to work things out 😆

    Advice on drawer runners needed

Not sure if this is the right section, but... I’m building a drawer in my hall for storing shoes and I’m getting lost in the apparently never-ending complexity of Blum drawer runners. I’m looking to make a double height drawer with a second drawer inside (see example pic below). The drawer...

Difference Between 2K car lacquer & 2K Poly?

2k refinish clearcoats (such as would be used in a professional accident repair shop) are cured using an isocyanate hardener. They are hazardous and certainly shouldn’t be used without a positive pressure respirator and industrial extraction. With that in place, they will give an excellent...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Born of necessity; a knock down desk for teaching from home. Priority was quick, functional, can be stored away with minimal effort and using what I had knocking around (hence the desktop made from two IKEA chopping boards). Assembled with dominos, screws and glue. It’s lasted 5 weeks and looks...

Curated quality minimalist tool list for a beginner woodworker

The two most energy intensive and tedious processes in woodworking for me are rip sawing and dimensioning rough sawn lumber. A bandsaw and a planer thicknesser Improves my enjoyment of hand tool woodworking Immeasurably.

    Has anyone ever considered Formaldehyde?

As was mentioned above, formaldehyde is a gas at room temperature and is used in many plastics and glues. I used to use it when I was formulating MF resins for the can coating industry. We used to do taste tests on beer packaged in cans with experimental coatings to see if there was any taint...

    Cut Resistant Gloves

I bought some Kevlar gloves after my first couple of bloody attempts at spoon carving using knives. Not going to stop you amputating a finger if you are particularly determined, but will definitely make it more difficult. Never use gloves with spinning tools.

Tips for pouring paint/varnishes without mess.

Experience from 25 years as a paint chemist... Full aperture paint tin - pour quickly and confidently to avoid the paint running down the side. When you stop pouring, slight rotation helps to break the stream cleanly. Push the paint from the gutter back into the tin with a brush, if using, or...

    grain filling, only uk method

You are looking for sanding sealer. If you are painting over the top rather than having the wood visible, then I’d look at an auto spray can sanding sealer (look for one that is suitable for plastics and you can be sure it will have a little flex). I’ve been out of the trade too long to...

    Hello & Question

I’d be interested in your wife’s hierarchy of dangerous tools. I know an A&E doctor who told me never to get a motorbike or a chainsaw.
