    Domestic Generator

I've taken the "solar generator" route just to supply the 3 pumps on the woodfired central heating system which take 65 watts when all running. It works as a uninterruptible power supply and the common junction box for the pumps just plugged into it. It will run the pumps for 10 hours and has...

    Vintage Workmate spares??

Sounds like one of these would be perfect: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Professional-Mandrels-Rivnuts-Labor-Saving-Carrying/dp/B07X9RR2QB/ref=sr_1_5?crid=20T4BQMBD6SI7&keywords=Rivet+nut&qid=1670129227&sprefix=rivet+nut%2Caps%2C326&sr=8-5

    NINJA FOODI

I use ordinary olive oil in a spray bottle in my air fryer. Apparently the aerosol oil sprays can eventually damage the coating because of some additive they contain.

Has anyone tried Dewalt 20v batteries on Erbauer EXT tools?

At least with Dewalt, their 10.8v and 12v models are exactly the same, aa are their 18V and 20v. It's just how the US and Europe classify the working/maximum battery voltage. I assume it's the same for other manufacturers.

Without Beer, People are Going to Find Out

My mum worked in the accounting office there and could buy "rejects", I think every week. They were chocolates that failed the quality control tests and came in a one pound brown paper bag. Tasted fine, but looked a bit iffy.

Without Beer, People are Going to Find Out

Norwich, where I was born and grew up used to smell of beer from the Watney's brewery and chocolate from Rowntree Mackintosh. We used to say that Watney's going down tasted like any other beer coming up.........😝

    aftermarket replacement drill driver batteries

Maybe I've been lucky but I've not had a problem with any of the DeWalt or Ryobi "copy" batteries that I've bought over the last few years. I always check the reviews (and use a website that is supposed to check the veracity of the reviews). The only issue I've found is that some of the copies...

    aftermarket replacement drill driver batteries

eBay or Amazon do them. I think I got mine from eBay. https://www.amazon.co.uk/DCA1820-Battery-Adapter-Compatible-Dewalt/dp/B08S49P8N8/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1A3KWNUIN1MRO&keywords=dewalt+battery+adapters&qid=1668669644&sprefix=dewalt+adapters%2Caps%2C133&sr=8-5

    aftermarket replacement drill driver batteries

If you really want to use genuine DeWalt batteries you can buy adapters to allow you to use the latest type on the old tools. I've got several and they work well.

    Regaining my youth

If I remember correctly it was a GT3, so a few steps up from a James Dean model.

    Regaining my youth

Ah, the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4. I had one in Dubai for a while. It would out corner almost anything including my mate's Porsche 911. Until the gearbox mainshaft broke. Twin turbo with intercoolers and fearsomely complicated to look after. Trouble was it sounded like a sewing machine. Now I get my...

    Refinishing old decking

No. A few years old so we stripped it back to bare wood with nylon brushes in cheap electric drills (ruining 3 in the process)

    IKEA Cabinet Doors

I'm looking for a bit of advice on repairing some IKEA Krokstorp doors. The kitchen is over 7 years old now, so the doors are no longer made (and as far as I can tell, no longer available anywhere). Our dog likes to sleep in the corner with her back against 2 doors, and the coating has begun to...

    Ground Beams — Shambles

It quickly became apparent that this was, indeed, a problem, so we rewatered it.

    Ground Beams — Shambles

Ah, now dewatering excavations. A whole new topic to explore! Did I ever tell you about the dewatering of Dubai Marina...... ? :D

    Ground Beams — Shambles

Most of my concrete experience was on marine structures in the Arabian Gulf, where the sea water is particularly saline. We therefore had to take extreme care to avoid water getting to the rebar long term. As far as I remember, all of my contracts were very specific about tie wires pointing...

    Ground Beams — Shambles

It's possibly worth mentioning that if there are joints in the longitudinal bars, there is a minimum lap length to consider. I've forgotten how much it should be in the UK but I'm guessing 48 X diameter of bars for high tensile steel in a beam? Joints should be staggered if possible. You want...

    Ground Beams — Shambles

One of the issues that I would pick up in the photo in post #45 is that all the tie wire ends are left poking towards the surface of the pour. Unless the wire is s/s (which I very much doubt) then it will rust, leaving another path for water to get to the rebar. Ends should be tucked in towards...

    Ground Beams — Shambles

I think most of the advice on here is pretty good. A bit OTT maybe in parts, but not much. Concrete nearly always exceeds its design strength, and keeps getting stronger for years, incrementally. I'd be more worried about steel cover and placement - plus curing properly to avoid the...
