    Power tools

I have mainly DeWalt but a few Ryobi, and of late I've begun to try Worx. Their SDS plus cordless drill is nice, as is the mini grinder/cutter and the nail gun. Time will tell if they are durable

Owners of rage 5s table saw … transporting

I'd say it'll need 2 of you. It's a bit awkward and the frame locks are not that strong, so it tends to unfold.

    Anybody Interested?

There has to be an impending "disaster" somewhere in the mix.

Anyone installed an external flue for a log burning stove in a two storey house?

Where I live in France it's now illegal to light a bonfire. Used to be a summer ban but now it's all year. I assume it's a country wide thing.

    Cooker hood poser...

Most of the ones around here have a little cap on the top to prevent ingress of rain. The one we have, which came from IKEA, has an internal flap valve to stop cold air sinking down the"flue".

    Rail and Stile Ratios

My rule of thumb is that the rail spacing should be about the same as the width of the door, making the diagonals, if any, (is there a technical name for them?) at about 45 degrees

    Bahco square

I read somewhere online yesterday that Bahco is part of the Snap On tool empire

running battery powered tools using mains dc adapter

IF I'm remembering correctly, the videos showing the use of an external power supply for cordless drills are the earlier ones.

running battery powered tools using mains dc adapter

There is a channel on YouTube called "The Post Apocalyptic Inventor". It's a German guy who fixes and renovates tools that he finds in scrapyards. One of his favourite fixes is doing exactly what you want to do. You will be able to source the parts that he uses, or maybe even contact him to find...

Workshop Interior - suggestions and critique

I don't know if these photos will be helpful. My ceiling beams are 2.4m off the floor, and I'm 1.94 tall. All of the tools are above head height for me, but are pretty easy to grab. I'm saving a large area of wall space, which is in short supply - the workshop was a small single garage before I...

What are the definitive smells of the 70s?

True, even if I don't live there any more. Don't know if it's true but doctors are said to use "NFN" on patients' notes meaning normal for Norfolk

What are the definitive smells of the 70s?

I don't remember that, but we always did things a bit different in Norfolk.

What are the definitive smells of the 70s?

If I'm remembering correctly, we added Castrol R to our 2 stroke fuel to make them smell like racers. We smelled of Brut aftershave.

    Small 12v drill/drivers

How about, "I'll buy you the Festool"?

    Small 12v drill/drivers

I always thought that the 10.8 and 12v batteries are identical and are just labelled differently depending on where they are sold (USA or Europe). I use both interchangeably on my DeWalt stuff.

Using an impact Driver for Screwing?

Quite a lot of the current models (like my DeWalt) have several different "force" settings, the lightest of which auto stops the screw when resistance is sensed. Each subsequent press of the trigger turns the screw about 1/6 turn.

Single most useful tool in your shop

Maybe the screwdriver could be used as a contraceptive by unscrewing the bedroom door handle?

    Heated Towel Rail

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm very reluctant to scrap a perfectly sound radiator. I'm also reluctant to have to probably drill different fixing holes to fix a new one on my nice tiles (opinions may vary) The glycol mix which I can easily get is what my solar heating circuit uses - and...

    Heated Towel Rail

This is the heated towel rail which lives in my barn. I noticed the other day that it was leaking from the threaded connection which in the photo is just above the plastic container (the barn is not used during the winter so the towel rail was turned off) The liquid that had leaked had no smell...
