    18v tool brand choice

I have been using Dewalt for years because at one time a friend could get really, really good offers on their different tools from the US. Stayed with them until fairly recently, but then tried a Ryobi SDS and then a Worx SDS. Both more than ok for home and semi pro work. The Worx in...

    Wild fires in BC Canada.

I know the difference between weather and climate, but it's always seemed a bit obvious that our activities over the last few decades have moved global temperatures up a degree or 2 (or maybe a bit more in places), but if the sun goes behind a cloud on a sunny day the temperature goes down...

That would be fine, but being upwind would not be good.

    2 stroke garden machinery frustration

And as an aside, if checking the oil level on a Briggs & Stratton 4 stroke screw the dipstick in, and on a Honda (and maybe others) check without screwing it in.

    Repairing plastic

Depending on the configuration of the repair you might find a way to use a line of bicarbonate of soda with superglue dribbled onto it. I've found that to stick well to most plastics. Look on line and you can find black powder that also works and blends in with the black plastic. It heats up...

    2 stroke garden machinery frustration

Is the 2 stroke mix correct? Some machines use 40:1 and some use 25:1. Maybe Google can help you find the correct mix? Edited to say that Fergie and I posted more or less the same thing at the same time..........

Bosch Belt Sander - PBS 75 - toothed belt wheel supplier??

If you do a Google search for the part number you'll probably get some hits on sites in Poland or Bulgaria. I've sourced old Bosch and Hilti parts from there. Or search for "Bosch spare parts Poland, Bulgaria". When I get back to my pc I'll look up the names of the places that supplied me.

Do fix broken stuff or buy again?

We had a Ryobi strimmer that stopped working after a month. Getting anything fixed in France under warranty is difficult so I took it apart to find a broken connection on the motor because the wire was too short and it had pulled off. Spliced in a new length of wire and it's been fine ever...

Do fix broken stuff or buy again?

I'll always try to fix stuff but in a lot of cases finding a spare part is nigh on impossible. I've been known to get bits from Poland, Bulgaria and Romania, particularly for old Hilti drills. Quite often if parts are available they are part of a much larger assembly and cost more than a...

    UK power sockets outside UK

Several (most) of the cheapo adapters in my kitchen drawer do not have the CE mark. I'm guessing that a lot of the Chinadapters do not.

    UK power sockets outside UK

Ok, so I'm in France where things work a little bit differently. A friend of mine has a barn which is not yet "renovated" but is in good condition. He keeps his car in it. A couple of years ago a small beam fell from the roof onto his car. The barn and the car are insured by the same company...

    UK power sockets outside UK

Something that hasn't yet been mentioned is the insurance aspect. When we moved to France we were told that using UK to EU adapters could invalidate your household insurance if there was an electrical fire, even if it wasn't a direct cause of the fire
