I blame YouTube, how many more Americanisms are we going to have to suffer ?

Sassy means having a lot spirit or get up and go or a lot of zest.

A new Pegas 16" Scroll Saw from Dictum

Hi Mark, That's a question best answered by any of the much more experienced scrollers than me. I'm sure most of the woodworkers here on UKW will vote for Hegner but some, like AES will definitely vote for Pegas.

A new Pegas 16" Scroll Saw from Dictum

Thanks so much AES for your reply full of good info. Looks like it was a blessing for me that Axminster didn't have any in stock : ) I knew about the fact that there are good ones and not so good. Am I correct in thinking that the ones made in Taiwan are the good ones? Really appreciate your...

A new Pegas 16" Scroll Saw from Dictum

I was ready to buy Axminster's Trade 16” Scroll Saw and, was very disappointed to see they had no stock available and contacted them asking when the saw would be available. They said that, regrettably it likely won't be until July. Oh NO ! Undaunted, I set out on a long journey to find...

    Intelliplug

I had just been looking for an Intelliplug for a friend. I had paid £5.20 back in June 2020, not sure if it would work and it has worked, very well for me. I've never used it for long periods of time only the odd mitre saw or bandsaw cut. Just turn on the saw and 5 seconds later the vacuum...

    Magnification/light for scrolling

Here's a very similar one which I bought and is highly recommended by the inimitable Adam Savage. The distinct advantage of this one is that you have the option of "doubling up" by using two lenses. So, you can find the perfect magnification for you. This ine is only £16.25 ...

this is an oh my joint, Japanese are darned clever

Totally agree. For a similar experience, watch this video of how the Chinese created Dougong, very complicated brackets which held up the very heavy tile roofs of The Forbidden City and saved it from several extremely strong earthquakes.

this is an oh my joint, Japanese are darned clever

Wow ! Got to hand it to the Japanese. Just incredible craftsmen ! If I could create that joint, I would be even higher than if I'd had one of 'em "other" joints : ) I'm in awe of these woodworking magicians. Gogsi

What was your favorite sweets when you were a nipper

I can remember Fry's 5 Boys and I immediately get a vivid picture of them. I can see the wrapper quite clearly. I'm in Edinburgh, so these boys got all the way up to Scotland too.

Thanks so much Doug. I hadn't heard that, so I'll hunt it down later tonight. Cheers.

    Micro Reciprocating Saw

Has anyone tried the Hitachi CR10DL/L4 10.8V ? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hitachi-CR10DL-L4-10-8V-Reciprocating/dp/B001NIDSBG?sa-no-redirect=1&pldnSite=1 This particular one is currently unavailable, otherwise I would have got it as I already have the Hitach screwdriver and so, wouldn't require...

    Glue Bot

I use a French's mustard bottle and it works great. I love the fact that, if you squeeze, pointing downwards, and then let go, the flow actually stops. So, its really accurate when trying to place glue in a pretty small area. Highly recommend it and the price is cheap as mustard : )

Cut off sharp end of pushpin

Hi there I'd like to cut about 6mm off a pushpin. Would a regular pair of pliers do the job or would I need something more substantial or exotic? Your help is much appreciated.

    Vacuum/dust extractor for power tools

According to Peter Millard (at 6:40 in this video) "because of the 13 amp fuse, you can use a little over 3000 watts." Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo5kpKMX_Vw My mitre saw is rated at 2200 watts and it did the job without batting an eyelid.

    Vacuum/dust extractor for power tools

Hi Robbo, I have a Henry and it's a super little vac and has some pretty decent suck for such a little guy. Just today I received an Intelliplug (bought on ebay) which Peter Millard showed in one of his many fantastic videos. It's basically a three outlet. Just plug your power tool into the...

    Mitre Saw Dust Extraction

I recently purchased a mitre saw and was totally unprepared for the amount of sawdust this thing spits out. It doesn't restrict itself to the vicinity of the saw either. Oh no, this monster spits everywhere ! I realise that this is the case for the majority of mitre saws and especially a budget...
