    Axminster white, wheres everything else?

Have to admit to using Axminster an awful lot, - one of the benefits of living just down the road!! My experience of their white stuff has generally been quite good. Two half inch routers, thicknesser and a table saw. Given good service and no problems. Some of the Perform stuff is also...

    Table saw decision time

Thanks for the comments. The main table and the extension just will not line up. I can get either the table itself or the 'bar' on which the rip fence locks lined up but not both at the same time  Have tried filing some off one of the support brackets (cough) and using packers...

    Table saw decision time

Spent another hour last night and a further 2 today trying to line up the extension table, - still no joy. Really p*ssed off. Haven't even attempted to fit the sliding table arrangement and have no confidence it will fit as it should. To my mind spending that sort of money the thing should at...

    Table saw decision time

The plot thickens ...... Went to get a PK200 came back with a TS2010!!! Thought I'd really made up my mind but hadn't had a chance to play properly with the 2010 so had a good fiddle and changed my mind, - price was good too :D :D However, - had to take saw back due to damage and...

    Table saw decision time

Thanks for the offer Tombo but your a fair way off from me plus its Yandles tomorrow and I'm all geared up to spend!!! Nothing quite like the purchase of a new table saw to get the juices flowing :D :D

    Table saw decision time

With Yandles on Friday it's time to make that final decision, - I've been putting it off for ages. I've spent more time looking at saws than I've ever spent looking for any tool but then again this one has to last me for ever (she says!!). I think its going to be the elektra beckum PK200...

    How good is SIP stuff?

Thanks for the responses. Looks like they might be worth a more serious look. Out of interest anyone know who the parent company is? I've found in the past that some makes are rather 'incestuous' and only the badge changes!!

    How good is SIP stuff?

I've come across more and more of their stuff being advertised and as it appears to be quite a bit cheaper than comparable makes I wonder what the quality was like. Does anybody have any experience with this kit? What's it like to live with? I tend to believe you get what you pay for but I...

    Decisions, decisions, decisions .......

Workshop space is currently 12'6" x 8'6" but with benching down two sides floor space is reduced to about 10 x 6. This is shortly to be expanded to 10 x 11 :D with some storage space outside (dust extractor etc.). Bandsaw is the perform CCBB, - still running on the blade it came with :oops...

    Decisions, decisions, decisions .......

Thanks for the helpful responses. I do have a reasonable sized bandsaw (from Axminster!!) but truth be told it doesn't get a lot of use. Partly due to workshop space (it's on wheels and a pain to move around) and partly because I've always found bandsaws rather inaccurate. This could of course...

    Decisions, decisions, decisions .......

I'm in the fortunate position of being able to upgrade some machinery. I have a reasonable but basic setup. Living close to Axminster nearly all my stuff comes from them!! Table saw BTS10PP, a Perform jointer planner and a CT344 thicknesser are probably my mainstays. The upgrade money (approx...

    Goncalo Alves

Tried all of the above and nothing has worked. Wonder if it's because I have to use nail varnish remover as acetone and the addatives cause it to fail? Would a change from PVA to cascamite make any difference? Starting to get desperate owning to the number of hours spent on the project...

    Health and Safety

As a professional 'safety person' I find this thread interesting to say the least. I've had the misfortune to investigate a number of fairly serious accidents involving woodworking activities, - every single one of them involved an 'experienced' woodworker!! The old saying of familiarity breeds...

    Goncalo Alves

I'm looking to glue together a box made of goncalo but I'm having trouble getting it to stick properly :( (I thought i might so I've been carrying out trials!). I suspect this is because of the oil in the wood. I've heard that a quick wipe over with nail varnish remover (acetone) will remove...

    Dovetail Jig for sale

Hi Neil, Funny, - I hadn't thought of doing it that way! Mainly 'cos I've got a reasonable set of 1/2 inch bits but of course it makes sense and could save me a few quid into the bargin if I decide to go ahead. Thanks Stuart

    Dovetail Jig for sale

The Leigh is in my opinion a superb bit of work. It's well made, the instructions are faultless and so easy to follow even I make good joints!! Once set up you can knock out endless joints in minimal time, - and they all fit perfectly. The only thing I find a pain is having to change cutters...

    Dovetail Jig for sale

Upgrade to Leigh jig :D means I'm looking to sell my Perform dovetail jig. It's the yellow version which I now believe they sell in white. Includes the 1/4 inch template as well as the standard one and both cutters. Is in excellent condition in original box. I'm looking for around £35 but...

Fixed base router for router table?

Gidon, I've had the misfortune to own 2 of B&Q's routers and have to say that I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole! They seemed like a real bargin but they really cant stand up to even moderately hard work let alone really hard work. The vibration seems to make the elctrical connections...
