    Routers (again!!)

Thanks for all the responses. As I already have the routalift the cost of that isn't in the equation. Cheapest Triton I've managed to track down is £220 + postage so I'm probably looking at the thick end of £240, - more than I really wanted to pay. Also not sure how it would fit on the...

    Routers (again!!)

Still on that elusive router hunt. I've been watching various threads and whilst the triton really does look like its the best for my needs the price is really pushing my boundaries and I'm having trouble justifying it even to myself let alone SWMBO!! What are opinions like for Hitachi (I've...

    Oil over varnish?

As I approach something like the seventh day ( :( ) and the varnish on the teak box still hasn't dried properly I'm left wondering what to do next? I think I will wait until it's dry, - will obviously take a few more days (if not then out comes the nitromors!!). Don't fancy trying to sand down...

    Finishing Teak

Day 5 and still not fully dry! :( I reckon it'll get there eventually. When it does is it possible to apply any other finish on top (apart from wax)? I usually apply at least 3 coats of varnish but I'm not prepared to put any more on this, - if I do it'll be an antique before it's properly...

    Glue and Teak Advice

To follow on from my own advice: Sanding will of course not work for all joints types. I say this having just finished cutting dovetails for a teak box (well, - Mr Leigh was a great help in this process :D ). Any sanding stands a chance of affecting the joint fit so I shall be seeking some...

    Glue and Teak Advice

An even cheaper solution is to freshly sand the joints just before you apply the glue (no, - really it works!!). 120 grit and a light sand and away you go. I've been given quite a lot of teak and until I experimented (and got some advice from here!!) was getting quite a lot of failures. I find...

    Finishing Teak

I've just finished making a rather nice (even if I do say so myself!!) teak box. I tend to use varnishes a lot as with our kids everything gets a fair mauling and I need a long lasting finish. I put a coat of satin varnish on and almost 2 days later it's still tacky. I know it's not a problem...

    Router recommendation?

I think (Yes I know :D) that the triton might be the one for me considering it will spend its life upside down and it appears to be designed for this. Cheapest I've found is £224 (Greys & D+M) unless you know different?!! EBay appears to be full of cheap cr*p at the moment so no decent 2nd...

    Router recommendation?

Thanks for all the responses. I have to admit that having always bought from the 'cheaper' suppliers it's something of a struggle to work out waht to buy when you move up the scale. Recommendations to date would appear to cover: Trend T11 (haven't seen one below £250 yet) Triton (any...

    Router recommendation?

Vibrates like an absolute pig (chatter cutting on a router anyone?!!), - bushes are fine. I can't see anything obvious and haven't been able to tighten up anything that might be the cause. It may well be repairable but it is getting on a bit now and I can use the excuse to upgrade to something...

    Router recommendation?

Having just finished thrashing my Axminster white half inch router to death  (it's given fine service over the last couple of years) I need to get a new one. Have decided to go 'up market' and get something a tad more robust and wondered if there are any recommendations out there...

    Veneering book

It's about time I had a go at this 'ere veneering lark. Always been a bit of a mystery to me so thought I'd start off by doing some reading. Got a copy of Veneering Handbook by Ian Hosker but there are still a few things I'd like to know about before I begin (for example edge treatments to make...

    Parquet flooring finishing

Many thanks Edmund. Looks like I'll be able to do want I want and not spend a fortune :D

    Parquet flooring finishing

Thanks Edmund, some useful advice. I'm not looking to 'restore' as such just make it look a lot nicer than it currently does. Any idea what type of 'gap filler' are they refering to? I had thought of plastic wood type compounds but this would work out very expensive!!

    Parquet flooring finishing

I've got an old oak parquet floor in need of refinishing. Trouble is there are a number of small gaps around most of the pieces and when I finished sanding they look like huge dark tram lines and not very sightly at all. I had thought about thin strips glued in but that's a lot of wood and even...

    Kity 419 Sliding Carriage

Ended up swapping TS2010 for the Kity 419. As both were supplied by NMA this was a relatively painless exercise (longish wait though). I was extremely disappointed with the TS2010 build quality and it was admitted to me that it isn't German built but Far Eastern so that probably explains it. May...

    Kity 419 Sliding Carriage

Gill, Having not long ago set mine up the answer is in the knurled nuts. They are used to 'adjust' the relative height of the bars leading to a level extension table. The drawings accompanying the instructions just about got me through the process although it was a bit trial and error!! If...

Help with a shopping list - What would you buy!

Without wishing to pee on your fireworks remember that the customs limit is a misely £145. Of course if you don't get caught you're alright. If you do get caught it will more than wipe out any savings and SWMBO will have a field day. Having all that hardware in a suitcase will also give the...

Guess what arrived in the post

Bit harsh Shady? After all, - if you made a complaint you'd expect it to be investigated wouldn't you? They do have a job to do.
