    Pedestal table WIP - Finished!

Well, - I've asked enough questions on this forum I thought it about time I actually started some woodwork! I'm as determined as I can be to try and keep a WIP all the way through, - a novel thing for me to attempt but here goes. I knew that I'd be using sliding dovetails so the last few...

    Sliding dovetail size

Thanks Steve, Really useful in my planning. 20mm should leave me with enough meat to keep the strength I think I'm going to need. Yes you did cover using a number of cuts before the dovetail cutter. Thanks again.

    Setting bandsaw blade guides

I remember reading somewhere about using an oil stone (or similar) against the back of the blade to remove any 'high spots' and also to round over the back edge - gently of course! Any merit in this?

    Sliding dovetail size

I've posted before in relation to my upcoming pedestal table (4 feet as opposed to a tripod). Nearly finished Mr M's mortice jig to cut the sliding dovetails but wondering what sort of dimensions they should be? I've been unable to find any guidance online or in any of my books. The pedestal...

6 pages before there's a technical phrase that means something to me!! Good going Tom, - interested in your ZCI adventures.

    Fettling an Axminster TS-200 Tablesaw

Ed, As a fellow 419 owner and really fed up with the almost complete lack of dust extraction I'm wondering if you took the internal blade 'shroud' off or modified it in any way? Tom, Interesting to follow your experience, - glad you managed to achieve a good result.

    Cutting formica

Thanks everyone - looks like stanley blades are the way to go. Will also probably try a 'zero clearance' approach on the table saw just to see if it works well. Formica was from an 'Arkwrights Emporium' type of shop near here that lets you buy single nuts and bolts!! Ah - the good old days :D

    Cutting formica

I'm just entering the home straight in making Mr M's mortice jig and need to cut some formica into strips. Having never had to do this before (always just cut over size and trimmed!) I wondered if there are any specific ways to do this without white shrapnel flying around the workshop! One of...

top customer service - steve maskery

I'll add to that. 1, 2 & 3 ordered shortly after Christmas and they arrived within a few days. Also ordered a few bits and pieces for jig making (his Bristol levers are cheaper than I could find elsewhere) and they too were with me in a couple of days. AND the dvd's are bloody good too!!

    New Yankee Workshop on-line

There's a name from the past! I spent hours and hours making some of his wooden toys. It was his books (and I can still see two of them on my bookshelf above the PC) that really got me back into woodworking in the mid '80's. I do like some of Norm's stuff but some of his working methods have...

    New Yankee Workshop on-line

Your forgetting one of the most important aspect of the American psyche - it is their God given right to feed themselves into fast spinning machinery if that's what they want to do and nobody is allowed to stop them. If you tried to make them guard their saws they'd hunt you down and kill you...

    Sketchup help?

I figure that as the thread starter I should report on progress! First project: And whilst it's taken a while I've learned a hell of a lot in quite a short space of time :D :D All I need to do now is build one or two of Mr M's jigs and I might be able to make something that actually...

    Sketchup help?

Glad I'm not the only one who hasn't managed to get to grips with it. An hour following that tutorial has moved me further forward than many, many hours spent looking at other online 'stuff'. I'd started to wonder if this computer could fly or whether I could use it as a football :D :D...

    Sketchup help?

I've tried without success to get to grips with sketchup for some time. The online tutorials are good but there just seems to be something I can't grasp. I'm thinking of investing in a manual and I wonder if anyone has any idea which is best? I'm aware of the 'for dummies' (quite...

A couple of jobs - advice needed.

I tend to agree with you about the window board, - sounds about the right course of action. You say the door linings are out of square/true, - by much? Are the doors still around and if so will 'truing' the frames mean the doors won't fit? If it's an older style house that out of square may...

    'Tripod' Table

I posted a while ago about making a tripod coffee table and received some useful advice. The design has now changed to a four legged table: I'm still inclined to use sliding dovetails but have wondered if it's possible to make the legs in pairs and join them with a form of cross halving...

    More musle power required!

Been there, done that, got the tee shirt!! Are you able to dismantle at all? Can make a huge difference if you can get some of the weightier bits off.

    Tripod table

Do you really think a m&t is stronger in this situation than a dovetail? Have to say I'm not but then I'm also going to fit a reinforcing plate (as outlined above) just to provide some support at the bottom of the column which is obviously going to be a weak point. Design meeting (that's posh...
