    Threaded inserts

I've got to make a number of drawer pulls/cupboard door handles and think the threaded inserts are a better way of fixing than using standard wood screws. Unfortunately the world of google and threaded inserts left me confused. Anyone have a regular supplier/type they use and can recommend? Ta.

google street view does the G.Canyon and river c

No we didn't, - we put in below there. It's Lake Powell that controls the flow of water down the canyon. Depending on the hydro electric requirements downstream the flow varies. Can get a bit hairy especially if there's been some rain fall as well.

google street view does the G.Canyon and river c

Didn't have to walk down the trail (Bright Angel) as we put in at the 'top' of the canyon by Lees Ferry. This meant the canyon 'grew' as we went deeper in. You could be as adventurous as you liked with the exception of the rapids of course! Some of the hiking was exceptional but I was a lot...

google street view does the G.Canyon and river c

I wanted to do something different and memorable for my 50th and ended up spending nearly 3 weeks rafting down the canyon! An absolutely fantastic time camping on the 'beaches' on the way down. Soiled my underwear more than once on some of the rapids that were probably the scariest things I've...

    Ply or MDF?

I have a lot of unit backs and drawer bottoms to install. All will be 6mm. Some of the units are quite big (1500mm high, 1100 mm wide). Minded towards ply just because it feels a bit less flimsy. I know MDF will give a better finish for the painted bits but I'll sacrifice that for strength...

    Earthquake!

Could it be like then one in West Mids a few years ago where millions of pounds worth of improvements were caused?! :D

Very scary view of the next terrorist weapon

That would depend entirely on your target surely? I can think of plenty of scenarios where 100 rounds would be more than enough!

    The great 'Double Glazing Con'

Bass? Beer? I don't think so! 'Bottom fallen out of your world? Get drunk on Bass and let the world fall out of your bottom!' At least that's what it said on the wall of the Bass recycling room!

Struggling to cut 35mm hinge holes in MR MDF - Advice please

+1 I do rather dislike this 'MDF kills everything' approach. Much better to be cautious of all dusts and bear in mind the HSE limits are based on exposure throughout an 8 hour working day and most of us are unlikely to be exposed to anywhere near that level.

    Festool OF1400

Well I've done the deed and am now a Festool router owner. For once Axminster were actually the cheapest and as I was passing ...... (it would have been rude not to!). I know there are cheaper ones out there but I do like the 'feel' and balance of this one. My table mounted router is a Triton...

Thanks Gents, - I'm off out shopping!

    Festool OF1400

Any good? Forgetting the fact that it's a Festool is it any good? My old half inch Axminster just blew and I have permission to upgrade :D . Wondering if at 1400 watts it might be a shade underpowered for a half inch router. Anyone know if it will swing decent sized bits? Will be used...

End of sheet cutting with tracksaw

Thanks for all the thoughts. Interestingly I'm left wondering if cutting strips less than the track width (and particlarly when not under the grip strips) is something of an achilles heel for the setup? Don't get me wrong - this is my first real use in anger and I think it's bloody brilliant...

End of sheet cutting with tracksaw

Currently converting 8' x 4' sheets of mdf into strips with festool TS 55 and track (a joy to behold!) and I've stumbled on to what is an issue for me. The track will 'allow' down to about 165mm wide with the 'grip strips' still in contact. As I want to convert the whole sheet into 100mm strips...

    Election Voting

I found that to be a complete and utter load of shoelace securing devices (bow locks!). 'My vote was wasted' because I didn't vote for the winner?! I believe its called democracy!! 'The outcome is pretty mich certain regardless of how we vote' - complete ****. Whilst it might take a lot of...

Repairing solid wlanut block kitchen worktop.

Having recently done just that I was amazed just how good the araldite and coffee solution looks when finished! Might just be the best and easiest route unless you are a particular kind of sadist who likes removing/replacing worktops :D (one of my least favourite jobs).

Axminster heavy goods delivery, two week's wait usual?

What he said although my understanding is that they only use their own transport for the heavy stuff. I asked a few years ago why and was told that couriers were expensive and couldn't/wouldn't help at the delivery end sometimes just dumping and running. I'm lucky and can pick up from the...

    Is 9mm MDF 9mm?

Many thanks Bob. Strange how one appears in the spares list but not in the main catalogue? I'll ring them tomorrow to make sure I get the right arbor at the same time. Thanks again. Stuart

Axminster TS-200: tilt axis alignment is way out

Talk to Axminster. In my experience they are incredibly helpful and may know about the issue. How old is the saw? If within warranty they will probably help you sort it out for free (assuming no missuse or abuse).

    Is 9mm MDF 9mm?

With the amount I've got to do I'm desperately trying to reduce the number of cutting operations hence (as you rightly summise) the desire for a close match straight off the tool.
