    Trimming foil faced door

I would ideally like to trim about 3mm off the long edge of an Ikea wardrobe door which I believe is foil faced? My concern is any longer term 'unravelling' or peeling on the trimmed edge and it looking unsightly. Anyone know what the options are for this sort of door? I can't adjust hinges any...

Wider sharpening stones or a different technique?

I've got the veritas jig and simply 'slew' it over the edges as I go to ensure full blade coverage. Easier to do than write about it! The other way is a slight diagonal stroke to ensure the edge of the blade is honed.

    Astronomy and Cosmology.

It is indeed a fascinating subject and one I willing admit to knowing very little about. I always find myself asking ‘how do they know what really happened?’. Much of it is just (very) educated guesswork but surely that’s what it is? About 12 years ago I was fortunate enough to spend time down...

    Rutlands tools

It’s not funny at all, - just a reflection of different approaches to quality control!

    Rutlands tools

I’d agree that it depends what you buy but the acid test with any supplier is how they react when things go wrong and unfortunately I could write a couple of essays in relation to the truley awful customer service with representatives of the company telling downright lies. What Droogs says may...

    Is this clamp too wonky?

I’d return that, not acceptable from people who want to be quality oriented.

Ray, I've been routing for a while now but that's still a useful page.

Alternatively a Stanley 60 1/2 with a Ron Hock blade. One of my favourite planes.

What do you call someone who....

Now that's a stupid comment if ever I heard one. Tarring every builder with the same brush because of your bad experiences really isn't necessary is it?

    Cake stand help

I appear to be in a minority but what you've done already looks quite good to me! It's all one piece so strength of joints isn't an issue and you complex CAD drawing appears to show it would actually work. Perhaps a strong, weighted base (designed to account of any out of balance weights from...

    Ventilation gap behind fitted wardrobes?

Thank you all. The gap will remain and I'll have a more detailed look at the insulating wallpaper.

    Ventilation gap behind fitted wardrobes?

I'm fitting Ikea wardrobes next week on an external wall that has had some minor damp issues in the past. The source of the damp has been cured (cavity wall breached plus wet insulation) and a period of time allowed for a dry out. My initial plan was to fit the floor to ceiling carcasses flush...

    What’s this ?

Looks to me like an attachment for a tile cutter that lets you cut circles for pipes etc.

    Best palm router for hinges

Bless you!! I use the corded makita and like it a lot for little jobs. Is the balance on the battery version difficult with the additional weight up top?

Which Drill Bill Set - General Purpose

For general purpose I really don't give a hoot where I get them from! My current set are Lidl specials in a nice case which have turned out to be a very good buy. I picked up a set of masonry drills at the same time and so far they're bomb proof and I've absolutely hammered them (pun intended!).

    Oak Dining Table

Chris, If you rigidly fix those ledges you will have problems later when the top moves (it will!). It can be frustratingly entertaining to see a piece you've worked hard on slowly rip itself to pieces because of seasonal movement (DAMHIK!).

What's the most stupid thing you've done in woodworking?

Kudos for taking a photo at the appropriate time! Would probably be the last thing on my mind in similar situation.

Sous Vide Recipes. What are your best/favourite/proven uses? All suggestions welcome.

I suspect Chris that it would taste very nice, - if it was properly cooked! 🤮

    Clamping mitred corner joints

I use a bog standard ratchet strap with corner blocks. Can get a lot of pressure if needed.
