    Heavy Duty Carpentery

Is it sad that I enjoyed that but want to see it slowed down so I can see more detail?

    Pension

That's certainly not been true for our stocks and shares ISA which over the last 2 years has provided over 5%. Very good when compared to the average high street return. We only followed this route as a result of professional advice.

    Small victories

Interesting Roger, - can they actually make someone remove one of those in their own house? What 'powers' do they use to do that?

    Garage door insulation.

Phil, - interestingly the price difference between the seconds and 'new' appears to be little more than pennies. I wonder if the current shortage of chemicals is having an impact? It certainly is on lead times, as much as three weeks plus from some suppliers.

    Garage door insulation.

Is that based on direct experience Roger or have you researched further? I'm just about to start dry lining a double garage and if this stuff (or similar) is as good as they say I might save myself some time, money and effort compared to extratherm. Sorry Phil for a slight (but related)...

Linear join on an oak worktop?

I wouldn't try and join in those circumstances. I've used http://www.worktop-express.co.uk/ several times and had positive experiences. You might find them cheaper as well!

    Garage door insulation.

This is what I'm going to do with mine (both of them!). I was going to make some sort of demountable insulation 'wall' by gluing extratherm to OSB but don't think it's worth the extra expense. I was wondering if that foil based insulation is as effective? I know it's claimed to be the...

    camera insurance

If it's work related (has to have) then surely it'll be covered on her employers insurances? Obviously a need to take reasonable care of the kit but as 'work equipment' it's their issue. Are they buying the camera as well?

    Vapour barrier?

Steve, I'm about to do the same as you and I won't be using any form of vapour barrier for the roof. If you think about it we don't use them for insulating in houses so my guess is there won't be an issue. My previous workshop/garage didn't have one in the roof and showed no signs of any...

    Door modifications

Thank you for the responses. I have now found some pattern 10's with larger trim allowances and this is probably what I'll go for. Get help thinking if I did modify these that I'd be continually waiting for one of them to fail. Interested to learn that 4 mm glazing would be acceptable at that...

    Door modifications

We have a pair of 15 pane internal glazed double doors. The intent is to change these to a single pane in each door. They appear to be a non standard size in that they are outside the stated trim allowances (1966 x 673 from a 1981 x 686 door with only 6 mm from each edge) plus we'll need to...

    Cameras

No, - I don't but given the lack of cost why not? I don't 'machine gun' at all but will take a number of shots of the same subject with different settings and from different angles. In the 'good old days' I would have 'made do' with one or two because I couldn't afford lots of processing...

virginmedia do have a capped broadband

For my sins I'm with EE (have been since freeserve days) and that's always been unlimited, - with 3 teenagers in the house it needed to be! I've rarely had issues that needed their fairly appalling customer services. I get 'free' calls, unlimited broadband and line rental for £20 per month.

    Cameras

Slightly off topic but how do you manage the large file sizes? I'm about to trot off to the far east and will probably take in the region of 2000 photos (as someone's said above with digital you take far, far more than with film  ) and I haven't got enough memory cards. I'd also soon...

    Chair construction

I had a similar issue about chair design and making and was recommended a copy of 'Chairmaking and Design' by Jeff Miller. ISBN 0854421556 Great book for anyone thinking about making chairs, - particularly the first one!

Is this a sensible way to board out my workshop

Interesting ..... I'm about to start on my garage and will be fixing 47 x 47 mm battening to the wall (16 inch centres) with 10 mm (ish) spacers behind. Then extratherm (or similar) seconds between battens then 12 mm plasterboard. Foil taping extratherm joins eliminates need for vapour...

    Insulating garage roof

Thanks all, - I'll use a mixture of those but probably the netting/membrane as that's going to suit the situation best.

    Insulating garage roof

Soon to start turning the double garage into my new workshop. The roof is a double hip and when the ceiling is plaster-boarded installing the insulation is going to be a right pain the the dooh-dah! I'm therefore thinking how I can do it before boarding. I've already got a load of earthwool...
