    New computer spec?

Do you mind if I ask why? I’ve asked people before and the response was about apple’s business methods rather than their hardware.

    New computer spec?

Well, things have changed a bit (just a tiny bit mind). It now appears we want an imac (there goes the new planer thicknesser!). This is partly Dr Phill’s fault for pointing me towards the refurbished apples which has lead to further research as well as the fact that apparently ‘they look nice’...

    New computer spec?

Believe you me, I’m starting to wonder!

    New computer spec?

Thank you all for your comments and some very helpful pointers. To be honest I’d expected more of a ‘that’ll do’. It’s amazing how opinions can be so different on the same make. In terms of what we use it for the truth is not a lot! Managing my music library and photo collection are the biggest...

    New computer spec?

Old laptop is dying so it’s time for a new pc. This time we’re going for an all in one desktop and as usual I find sorting out the specification ridiculously difficult as I’m happy to admit I know very little about them. With a max budget of £600 this one appears to be quite good and for our...

    Sold Jet AFS500 air filter

No room for this excellent bit of kit anymore. Has been modified (rather agriculturall) to allow it to be hung from roof/ceiling. Early versions had a problem with the circuit board, this one has been replaced and works fine. Remote works as it should. Looking for £60 or vary near offer. Located...

Sold Axminster MB1933 bench top thicknesser

Another casualty of the downsize. Had this a while but again not used for some considerable time. Had a reasonable amount of use but still in great condition. Comes with spare set of blades. Looking for £225 or very near offer. Located TA18 (near Crewkerne, Somerset).

    Sold Axminster CT1502 150mm planer

The dreaded downsize bites deep! This has been in storage for quite some time now and I simply haven’t got the room anymore. In very good condition with a few marks on the cast iron beds. Comes with spare set of blades for the 3 cutter block. Does come apart so will fit in a hatchback with the...

    Clear glass splashback?

If you’re worried about ‘stuff’ getting behind then I assume you’ve thought through the fixing method? I’ve only ever seen glass splashback stuck to the wall and with clear glass this obviously wouldn’t work. What fixing do you have in mind?

    Used Electric Cars

I read recently that there’s a recall because of overheating batteries. Might be worth contacting your local dealer? Nice car and certainly one I’d look at if in the market.

    Wood burner fan

Ours definitely makes a difference, you can feel it moving a reasonable amount of air and heat distribution in the room has certainly improved.

Track vs circular saw + track vs Kreg Accu cut??????

As Aidan says, think carefully about how you'll use whatever you buy in the longer term. I'm a similar position but already have a tracksaw but thinking carefully about an MFT type of setup or a small table saw. I'm still not 100% decided on how I'll be working in the future but really need to...

    morticing a pedestal table

I made a 3 legged pedestal some years ago and the sliding docetails were a pain. Steve Maskery had plans for a jig so that was the way I went but it was still quite frought and I needed 3 routers in order to not loose settings. If you’ve got indexing on your lathe then building a box is...

    Foam gun?

Thanks a lot. That simplifies things and means I don’t have to spend a fortune.

    Foam gun?

I need to buy a foam gun to help with the garage to workshop conversion I’ve just started. A simple search reveals hundreds and I’m wondering if there are any recommendations for a cheap gun (that probably won’t get much use afterwards). Likewise any to avoid?

What is your favorite American TV show?

Breaking Bad was really good to start with but for me faded out in the last series and the story line struggled. I think Better Call Saul is actually better and looking forward to more. We've been watching some Australian stuff (Rake in particular) which is very good.

    Invasion of US Capitol building

In America the chances of the whole group being mentally ill are amazingly high!

    Rutlands tools

You know exactly what Peter meant and it's rather disingenuous to throw the slave issue at him don't you think? His point is extremely valid and if the Chinese copying is allowed to continued unhindered people will simply give up development work. But clearly plenty of fans of cheap stuff on here!

    Finally built a fold-down MFT

What a neat solution. I'm going to be looking at a similar set up when I start converting my garage to a workshop, hopefully later this month. I like it when someone else has done the hard thinking for me!
