    Wood clock first pics!

Congratulations. I still have the plans for half a dozen clocks somewhere so you are putting me to shame now! For me, if you are doing the body in white, I would try and do the faceplate out of real timber, even if you have to laminate several pieces edge on to get the circle. I would want it...

    Motorbikes

Currently use bikes for commuting - doing 35k a year from Kent to London and back daily. Started on a CB500S, moved onto a Fazer600 and after that got a SMIDSY am currently on a Divy900. Slow, shaft driven and currently rattling itself to bits :D Steve

    Shower and pressure release device

Wow, many thanks for that Alan, much appreciated. Very happy to fiddle, I put the original shower in and wired it back to the CU. Been at work today so havent had chance to take it apart yet, but will do so this week. Steve

    Shower and pressure release device

Thanks Alan - does it constantly leak, leak only when the unit is turned on or only leak until the hose was unkinked? I have no water from the PRD at all currently, not sure if there was when the head blew as I wasnt there. There is none leaking from the PRD when the shower is on now either...

    Shower and pressure release device

Any plumbers about? I have a Triton T80i Pumped shower where the pump is internal to the unit on the wall. SWMBO turned it on yesterday morning and the shower head blew off (not screwd on properly or come undone I guess). Now the shower will not provide hot water. The pump still works, the on...

    My Olde Kentish Bashe

Wartime tunnels are part of Dover Castle - you can only do the tunnels as part of a guided tour but not a bad experience. Used as a hospital and telephone exchange during the war, and they have some mock-ups as you go round. The castle itself has recently been refurbished by English Heritage -...

    My Olde Kentish Bashe

Yeah, but watch the prices for a one off visit to WildWood. I can appreciate what they are trying to do in terms of preservation and conservation, but don't go expecting to see lots of animals like a major zoo. Way overpriced for a walk in the mud as a one off. If you are local and have...

    Scroll saw stand

From the Pic the Hegner stand looks substantial, and welded together. The Axi, IIRC is pressed steel, comes flat packed and bolts together. No contest - a welded stand will perform better. However, as already mentioned, adding weight as a damper to a flimsy stand will work wonders. Paving slab...

Where are you at Phil - local(ish) to me in Kent? Steve

    Variable speed control.

Yup, well worth it. Some of us cut slow and steady, others like a faster rate of cut. Personally I use quite a slow feed rate and cut and the variable control is nice to get it where you feel comfortable. That said, once I have it where I want it I tend not too vary much. Steve

    Ed's new tablesaw

You may want to look at weights gym matting as an alternative - 15mm thick rubber, about £70 for a 6x3 sheet from a brief internet search. More than those soft tiles people use but much stronger. Steve

FOR SALE : Router Table...withdrawn, not for sale

Agree - it was extremely well engineered. The only thing I wondered, and forgot to ask Colin, was about the amount of backlash in it. It seemed to raise and lower the bit extremely fast and I wondered how micro-adjustable it was if you wanted to raise or lower by a tiny amount. Steve

    Diamond fret saw

Hi Dave, Good question about the price of Diamonds, they are extremely variable if you watch e-bay! Some people love em, others are not so keen. Gill is our resident expert on them and finds her 'collection' great. I bought one for £50 off e-bay and have never got on with it - currently sitting...

    Ye Olde Kentish Bash ** 6th March 2010 **

I echo the thanks already offered - a very enjoyable day all round :D First one of these I have been to, and discovered another member lives 500m from me  Won a saw in the raffle, fell in love with the Veritas dovetail saw and had a play with some planes I definately couldn't afford...

Do you have these guys in the UK?

Stunning as usual Carter! I have not come across these yet and have a 6yr old and a 4 yr old son, so would guess they are not prevalent in the UK so far. We are currently still battling aliens with Ben10 and Batman is making a resurgence but no Japanese figures yet. I am sure its only a matter...

    Kity 419 weight?

80kg?! Wouldn't say mine was anything near that weight. The only CI is the main table, the extensions are pressed steel. Rails are Aluminium as is the fence. I do not have mine on legs so cannot say what they weigh, but if you quote 80k to a courier they will think pallet, no way it needs this -...

    Help needed copying patterns

Paper, Scissors and Glue. Three staples of the scrollers armoury  Seriously, most of us use spray adhesive or pritt stick becuase you want the pattern to run with a particular grain orientation - especially for multipart toys. Steve

Bugger me interest rates are still on hold.

Yes, as evidenced by the smilie! didn't mean to offend, apologies if it did. Although on a more serious note, what people pay in taxes now tends to fund services now - what your contributions paid for was the provision for your parents generation, mine pay for my parents genaration and so on...

Bugger me interest rates are still on hold.

How long do you want to replace them for DW - are you immortal? Tis us tax payers who are making contributions for your NHS treatment, free bus pass, heating allowance, free prescriptions and so on. Now we can stop all that so you can get a 3% return on your savings, but you will have...
