You can get Johnstones Epoxy Resin floor paint at Leyland* decorators centres, who seem to sell to anyone at trade prices. This will bond like XXX and protect your polyurethane waterproofing from foot damage. * Leyland, the cheapie brand (Kalon Coatings?) bought out Johnstones, a premium paint mfr.

    Axminster 21" Plus Bandsaw

Like many machines from Taiwan, this one is fitted with a very badly made V belt. The belt width varies along the length. This means the belt tension varies as it runs round the pulleys, causing the motor to vibrate, easily visible. Residual vibration cured by fitting a precision ground /...

Digital bandsaw tension gauge for under a tenner (Lidl!)

Jake, in an engineering sense, probably not. However we're not trying to measure the size of an object accurately to 0.01mm. Here, we're measuring a stretch from ~150mm to 150 and a little bit, and it's only the little bit, the extension due to tensioning the blade, that we're interested in. The...

Digital bandsaw tension gauge for under a tenner (Lidl!)

My old saw had marks against the spring length 1/8, 1/4 etc which worked whatever the exact blade length, until the spring began to fatigue and shortened...My new one a scale from 1 to 10, less than helpful, especially as the reading is blade length dependent... Most of the literature...

Digital bandsaw tension gauge for under a tenner (Lidl!)

Thanks, and me too! I'd been ferreting for a better idea since that wood and nails job in FW. Overcome at the low price I got 2 of the Lidl calipers, though I only use 1 for the intended purpose. I think I'll cut off the depth gauge from one so it's a bit more compact and comvenient on the...

    Axminster 21" Plus Bandsaw

SBW5300. It has 21" wheels (53cm) the throat is ~20". The smaller saw is 17" (43cm) and the biggie 6300SBW has 25" wheels. The middle 21" size is available in both 1 & 3 phase, the biggie 3 phase only.

    To fill...or not to fill

Polyester resin is cheaper than epoxy (but it does shrink a bit). This is used in making stuff from glassfibre, and a big range of colouring pigments are available (mail order, Glassplies). You'd lard it on and sand it off, if that's acceptable. I would think either glass clear encapsulating...

    Axminster 21" Plus Bandsaw

Nothing like asking the man at the top, so I emailed Ian Styles who sent me a long reply. Here's some interesting quotes: regarding the use of wide blades: and the manual: Some new blades arrived today from Hamiltons. A 1 1/4" hook tooth 3/4" pitch tensioned to the maximum mark is loaded...

    Axminster 21" Plus Bandsaw

Over the course of the last week I've emailed Technical, Customer Service, and Orders, to chivvy things along. I thought it'd be easier for them to get the bloke who knows about their bandsaws to email me back. Apparently not... I must try again, a bit harder.

Digital bandsaw tension gauge for under a tenner (Lidl!)

Tensioning bandsaw blades on smaller saws can be a bit hit and miss, as apparently the saw's own indicator is often way out, or not helpful (mine has a scale of 1 to 10). Precision tension gauges can be bought , but at a 3 figure cost. Hopefully what follows may be useful to others... It...

    Axminster 21" Plus Bandsaw

Axminster just got back to me this morning with a returns number for the table extension. They seem less than sure about the saw's spec. "If the wheel is wide enough to take a 1 1/4" blade then that must be OK"

Tried a TC tipped bandsaw blade?

In the context of sawing, it's easy to have TCT v steel circular sawbaldes in the back of your mind. Looks as if the same degree of difference does not apply to bandsaw blades! HSS is looking a better bet for hard hardwoods. ps $152

George, isn't that strange, the only time I've gouged a waterstone was when trying out sharpening on the push stroke! Perhaps it's like a lot of things, you're happy with what you get used to.

    Cheap powertool extractor at lidl

There's basically 2 ways of doing the switching, electromechanical - a relay, or solid state. If you overload the relay the contacts will not last to their design life. If it's solid state and does not immediately fail, the life of the device will be the shorter, the hotter it runs. Soft start...

    Axminster 21" Plus Bandsaw

I saw that model at Philly's and asked him about it, Like you he's pretty chuffed with his. The urethane tyre is just about 1 1/4" wide, so it's probably possible if the frame will tension it. Am a bit wary about cranking up the tension contrary to manual without Axminster's say so. I wondered...

Tried a TC tipped bandsaw blade?

Thanks for that, Alan. Did it actually cut any better? I have a sister in the US who gets me stuff now and than, she says a blade will cost me about a $ per inch.

    Cheap powertool extractor at lidl

Hi Colin Im my eg I took 1500W for the vac, but yours is 1200W+ 2000W router For you, that's a total of 3,200Watts in all. 3200/230=13.9A. (A 13A fuse is made to pass 13A, not blow at 13A) I bet the plug gets hot though... It's better to add up amps from the label, if the vac is really 1200W...

    Axminster 21" Plus Bandsaw

Arrived on Thursday, great help from Axminster's driver to get it in the workshop under rather low door. Thanks! I'ts quite a beast, taller than I, and blows 13A fuses. Decided to be patient and replaced the supplied mains lead with one long enough to reach a 16A socket on the wall. At last...

Tried a TC tipped bandsaw blade?

Has anyone tried a TC tipped narrow bandsaw blade? They feature in US based literature, usually from Lennox, who apparently make them from 3/8" up.
