    Sweeping up

Tom, The main problem with H&S managers is they are often very poorly qualified and interperet "the law" badly. You can usually recognise them as they actually quote law rather than explaining good pragmatic safety practices. Generally speaking H&S managers are "NEBOSH" qualified. You can get a...

    Sweeping up

Bob, Up until about 4 years ago all advice was free, but then the government (specifically Chris Grayling in one of his previous manifestations) told them to stop helping people. Many Senior HSE inspectors left/ took early retirement in disgust (saying they were not in H&S as a money making...

Agree with Hugo it says he was “advised”. That means exactly what it says ....... and even though we might not do it, we all know it’s good advice.

Do what I do. Around Christmas time I go into a pound shop and buy a book called a "diary" It has blank pages marked with each day of the following year in it. You then write down stuff you want to do on a specific day and refer to it every so often. Perfect for old Dodderers who forget things...

    Camera recommendations

Some photographers are Real tackle tarts and must have the latest bells and whistles. You can use this to your advantage and buy second hand from a reputable dealer. I have found London camera exchange very good. Like most photographers I am highly bias regarding makes, so feel free to ignore...

I am pretty certain that no one's last words, on their deathbed, were "I wish I had spent more time at work". Ps. the lurgie has spread to the whole of Essex

I have given myself a good talking to about my tool hoarding "illness". I am putting together a box of stuff for the "bring and buy" table. Hope you are all doing the same.

Chris, Ear infections are quite common. I believe they affect your balance (I assume not good in your job) but could easily clear up by the following Monday. Just saying.

Spray Adhesive For Attaching Abrasive Sheets To Granite Tile

Just give it a quick rub on the 400 all you need to do is create shiney high spots. Unless I have the wrong end of the stick entirely, you are massively over thinking all of this. If the hollow is truely only 0.04mm then that is sod all! Just get the blades sharpened and get on with some...

    3 Billion litres per day

That's how much the water monopolies are losing through leaks. So.... When we get the inevitable water shortages and they trot out the "global warning" excuse, you know where the problem really lies. What exactly are the lazy bu££ers at OFWAT actually doing to earn their salaries?

    Scraper sharpening

Not in words but by your actions, which is a more powerful communication. You say you have worked in a professional shop, if that is true, you know and I know you would have been out on your backside if you had switched that machine on, at work.

    Scraper sharpening

I saw what you said and to my mind just compounds the issue. " I know it's dangerous but I am going to do it anyway." You just pay lip service to safety by saying you take it seriously when it's clear you don't. People watch these things and assume what you are doing is the correct way to go...

    Scraper sharpening

If you plan to become a u tube "star" you need to up your safety game. That exposed drive shaft on your grinder made me cringe,so I stopped watching 3 minutes in and am unlikely to bother with any of your future output. I cannot take anyone seriously who does not look after their basic personal...

    Anyone any good at maths?

Can you be sure your walls and ceilings are flat, level and square? I tend to build frames against walls as I go along, as I am yet to come across square corners in buildings.
