    sharpening plane blades

I do much the same, except....... I stick wet and dry to mdf. This makes the wet and dry last longer and easier to use. When the wet and dry is almost worn out I still use it as a rough touch up/strop.

    Wow wasp attack

Wilkinsons foam wasp nest killer. £2.50 a can Bought one last week and a quick squirt did the job. I would have preferred to leave them alone (wasps do a lot of good) but it was close to a path near the back door. Was the size of my fist when I noticed it, four days later it was as big as a...

Can 'calling number' on a mobile be spoofed ?

These scams rely on phone anxiety, the phone rings and people think it might be an important call. Unless you are a brain surgeon, hand on heart how many really important calls have you ever had in your lifetime?

cutting wood to a4 size without a laser?

Lasers are a relatively new invention, what on earth do you imagine we used as little as 10 years ago. If you cannot get the required accuracy with a table saw then I think wood is the wrong medium for your application. As it is not an inert material ,it moves with humidity.

I have a couple of marking knives of that pattern they are very useful tools. I don't think I have ever actually used them for marking out however.

    bought a square

Just re read this. Why would you want to remove the plastic thing (reference edge)? Only time it needs touching at all is to readjust if it drops out of square.

    bought a square

I mainly use this square for my glass hobby as the plastic thing Aids hooking around the glass sheet. But I have had no issues with it at all. As a general square it doesn't get a lot of work, as I have other squares I tend to use for that. I regularly do the "flip over" thing against a bit of...

    Sparkey Machine Question

Unless I am missing something, it's just plug and go off a normal 3 pin plug. Edit: just spotted the required fuse size. Seems a big start surge to me?

    worx 20 volt drill

I have had a drill from lidl for about 5 years and it has been fine. I also bought a small circular saw that works off the same batteries, so I have two batteries and two great tools. Neither have missed a beat. Note: although the above is perfectly true I only posted it cos I know you hate...

Fascinating Radio 4 programs on the Fens by Francis Pryor.

You might enjoy a trip up the A1 to Peterborough and flag fen. My son did an archeology degree and worked for a short while with Francis Prior's wife. What she didn't know about wood wasn't worth knowing

    Present disaster

When we were first married we were very poor. So we agreed we would not buy each other Christmas presents. A few days before Christmas I spotted a much reduced egg whisk, so I bought it so she would have something to open on Christmas morning. Every Christmas for the past 42 years she has...

If Pete Maddex reads this he might put up a photo of a jig/gismo/attachment he made for Temporary converting a number 5 with a side handle. I made one and it work well.

    Spoon Carving Knife

After seeing some Pete made, I made one. It's quite easy. I used a blunt jigsaw blade. Grind and put an edge on (one side only). Use mapp torch to bend and harden in one go. Temper in the kitchen oven after you have cooked the Sunday roast.

    Secateurs

I have several pair of good secateurs but they have lost their spring. Spares on line appear to be close to the price of a new tool. Anyone know different?

    Tenon Saw tpi

Is the difference between 10 & 12 worth bothering about? I have several cross cut tenons, but last year I found a nice saw looking for a home and took pity on it. I filed it as a rip. I hardly use the cross cuts now.
