Edge joining boards (or pieces thereof)

Strangely I had a rub joint fail on me yesterday, which was a rare thing for me. The PVA had remained slightly "milky" I decided the wood might be a bit oily (although it looks dry). I have just de greased and am going to use castamite as I think the wood might be slightly gappy too. Because...

Edge joining boards (or pieces thereof)

I think Ply is even worse than timber for pushsticks. MDF breaks nicely in the event of a kick (I would imagine) and you can happily run the end into the blade for "follow through", which I think adds to safety.

    Working hours experiment

Were I worked we had this. I think most folks thought it was a very good perk. And the Friday commute home was a bit easier. The proviso was the boss could require you to be at work all day Friday if there was urgent work to complete. Personally rather than winding down (all of the day) on...

Fine Dust and general dust extraction

Regarding number nine. Don't bother, the kit you will be able to afford will not be good enough and the results even if they were accurate are not easy to interpretate. Sorry if this sounds a bit big headed but it's a complicated subject that requires a lot of knowledge.I have posted above my...

Fine Dust and general dust extraction

Regards air monitoring. In a past life I was qualified to perform air monitoring in industrial settings. We used very expensive samplers plus laboratory techniques to comply with HSE requirements. This cost the clients a bomb and was very lucrative work for very little effort. However... You...

    recommendations for a printer

On Amazon there are third party toner cartridges. I have just ordered one for 13 quid. Cheaper to order 2 or more but am hopeful the set up one provided plus this spare will last me a while. Being a cynical old sod I am of the opinion that more technology means higher chance of fail so purposely...

    recommendations for a printer

The printer (from Amazon) arrived next day, even though I opted for free delivery, all works fine. Lesson learned is not to assume. In this case I thought laser printers were well over £100 and cartridges £70 mark. Thanks for everyone's advice. This is what I bought if anyone is interested...

    recommendations for a printer

I think that's what I was hoping to hear I had assumed lazer printers were pricey and thought the toner cartridges were about 80 quid each. I will get a mono as it is mainly letters we will want it for.

    recommendations for a printer

her Majesty and I have have managed without a printer for years as we have e-mailed our stuff to work and printed it off there (which I assume many do). Anyway we now don't work !! So need a printer. Something cheap. That will run on third party inks We will probably use it quite rarely...

Can I apply danish oil to existing oil finish?

The problem with Danish oil is it can be anything and in any proportion the manufacturers wants to stick in a can. This item looks too nice to risk ruining IMHO. For consistesency I would go for a "brand" such as chestnut. Terry their Tech bloke is a member here and his advice is very sound...

    Making planes - cautionary tale

HSE only have a remit for safety in the workplace. So until prostitution is legalised it is unlikely to happen.

    Felder PCS/sawstop video

Jacob, Your evangelism regarding push sticks is admirable and I fully agree with you. But but, if folks want to spend their money on expensive fads then that is their problem. You ain't going to change them, so by all means sing your song but don't let the needle get stuck once you have made...
