    Best gardening book of all time Adam the Gardener I still refer to my grandmother's copy. A second hand reprint can be had from Amazon for less than a fiver delivered.

    Lawns are usually full of wire worm. And leather jackets (daddy long legs larvae) Both love spuds :( You don’t need any fertiliser until the leafs show You realise about earthing up?

    Chris. I suspect your crop will be riddled with wire worm . :( Regarding fertiliser, growmore works fine. When I plant spuds the spud goes into the bottom of the trench and then a layer of compost on the top. I find that this reduces scab.

    Last year I bought seed potatoes as usual and also planted some odds and ends from the vegetable box that had chitted. Could see no difference in the results.

    You might be in luck. Lidl have a cordless on offer in their shops Tool plus battery and charger for less than 50 quid. I had the previous incarnation and it has been an excellent tool

    I am sure you are right but I have enough back saws and all are sharp and properly set. Several are my dad’s, and I feel a connection when using them.

    My brain and muscle memory cannot deal with a pull cut. I can saw with a back saw without thinking about it too much. ..... my life is too short to learn this new skill.

    Quite a while ago I was sanding a length of wood away from my bench on a lowIsh trestle. I fired up the sander and the wood shot out from underneath straight into my nuts :D It really hurt :cry:

    Thanks But I know my limitations! I am worse at tiling than I am at painting :( My tame plumber however is excellent , but it's going to be a long while before he can get in.
