    Brass door catch

Closest I know of is this http://www.snobsknobs.co.uk/shop/antiqu ... try-catch/ But it costs a fortune

    Shooting

You don't need to spend a fortune to get a gun good enough for clay shooting. I shoot on several local farms (pest control and some pheasant/partridge) and shoot clays fairly often. None of my guns cost me more than £200 and they are all perfectly adequate for the job. Granted they are not as...

    Contractors: How much to expect

If EPDM has been properly laid then standing water is not a problem - in Germany it's not uncommon for the outlets on flat roofs to on an upstaged so that the roof remains underwater. Helps to keep it cool and minimise expansion/contraction.

    Rcord bs 400 Bandsaw

Have you levelled in the table? When I got my BS400 I didn't bother - just got on with using it and although I was pretty happy with the results when I eventually got around to levelling in the table properly and locking it off I was able to cut 1.5mm veneers from a 300mm maple board about 1...

Which b*st*ard posted the pictures of Timberline?

I just thought that some of you should share my pain. Living only 10mins drive away from the place isn't easy I can tell you. Especially as it's only about three doors from my glass supplier who I need to visit at least once a week. The last time I was there was purely educational - showing...

    UJK Parf guide system

I KNOW I need one - the little Black and Green Monkey on my back has been whispering it in my ear ever since they arrived at Axminster. He told me that my children clothes and food are not as important as I'd thought. Helpful little chap.

    Cordless lawnmower? Any recommendations?

I thought 'cordless lawnmower' was pikey-speak for goat.

Dip 'n' strip - Corrodip combined with Ultrasonics

I bought it from Liquid Engineering online. You should be aware that fresh from dipping it odes leave a dark grey patina on items. This will come off but does need a good rub with wet and dry.

Supply Chain for a small cabinet/furniture maker

Timber yard is a phrase that I've always associated with somewhere like Covers or Alsford Timber - much closer to a builders merchant. Having said that, I can't think of a better name for a place like Morgans or JW timber here in Kent. Timberline is neither - it's the equivalent of a crack den...

    Plugging chisels.

A year or so ago I did a job where I had to install about 20 or so door linings into new masonry openings. The masonry was a type of lightweight block that was extremely crumbly - almost impossible to get an accurate through fixing with any traditional or modern masonry fixing. Not having a...

mitre saw..the hunt continues.... Bosch GCM 8 SJL..?

I would venture the opinion that this is a case of what is the tool for? If it's for general crosscutting with carpentry/joinery grade mitres and accuracy then a Compound Slide Mitre Saw is the best tool for the job. If it's for bob-on accurate work then definitely DONT get one that...

    Future Workshop Planning

Personally I'd build my own bench. You can build a dreadnought class monster from fence posts and 4 x 2. The trick is to use loads of glue, timberdek screws and keep it heavy. Benches with huge dovetails and the like look great but don't really work any better. I beat the living daylights out...

    Magnets

Not being remotely scientific I can only offer you my laymans views: a.) The Force b.) Witchcraft c.) Something to do with the Large Hadron Collider - you've created a black hole or summat. After that I'm out of ideas.

Anybody ever worked with HDPE ?

It needs fairly high temperatures to melt to a pourable consistency. It sticks to frying pans like sh\t to a blanket.

Dip 'n' strip - Corrodip combined with Ultrasonics

In a word, No, I'm not sure. So far no one has died, nothing's caught fire and the 'prentice is still making good coffee, so all the important indicators of impending doom are checking out as OK. Oh and the WiFi is still sending retro 90's tunes through the surround sound set-up via Spotify...

So far the liquids gone quite dark. Here's a picture of the Sash Pocket chisel I posted about yesterday. This is after 3 hours: BEFORE AFTER

Dip 'n' strip - Corrodip combined with Ultrasonics

Some time ago a retired Doctor friend gave me an Ultrasonic water bath cleaner thingy, suggesting it may be useful for cleaning up old tools. I tried it a few times and whilst it proved useful for cleaning up the monthly workshop teaspoon it didn't really do much that hot water and fairy liquid...
