Free to a good home - some old stuff

I'll try and get everything packed and weighed over the weekend and let you all know by PM.

Free to a good home - some old stuff

After consulting the international 'Tool Giveaway Committee' the tournament format is as follows: The four names get put into an old jam jar containing mystery bolts (the ones that are left over after assembling a new bit of workshop kit) They will then be selected FA Cup Draw style by me...

Free to a good home - some old stuff

So, here's the allocation: Shoulder Infill Plane - Billiphuster Infill smoother type thingy - Pete Maddex Brace - Alexam Plough planes and irons - Dovetaildave (I'm presuming you're referring to the two wooden monsters with the ornate fences?) Mortice chisels - LutponM Moulding Planes - BM101...

Free to a good home - some old stuff

No problem re the hijack Dave. It's inspired me to see what else I've got that might be useful to you. Apologies to the rest of you that I haven't got around to allocating the stuff yet - last night was a truly mental evening for various reasons so I'll hopefully get to it tonight. Thanks for...

Free to a good home - some old stuff

OK chaps and chapesses, it seems like most of the gear is now claimed by at least one person per item, some have more responses. I'll have a proper look through the pm's and replies tonight and work out who is getting what and then let you all know if that's OK.

Free to a good home - some old stuff

Biliphuster, it's all yours. It'll need a good clean and the sole will need some work. It'll also obviously need a good sharpening. PM me to let me know when you want to collect it.

Free to a good home - some old stuff

Needing to get the workshop cleared out and ready for some serious (!!) extra curricular work I happened across this stash of bits n pieces which I probably thought I'd clean up one day. Obviously 'one day' is never going to come, so anyone who'd like to take this stuff off my hands is welcome...

A long absence and some opportunities.....

I've been off the forum for a fair few months due to a variety of reasons - mostly work related. Now I'm back, life is decidedly less manic and some things have changed in the world of Zed's Ded Hed. As most who run their own business will know it's easy for work to become all consuming and...

    Underrated woods.

I use a fair bit of tulipwood (mainly for internal door linings/casings) and I am quite often surprised by how varied the grain can be, both in terms of colour, shade and pattern. I've had boards that contain the typical ultra pale creamy white that most people associate with Tulipwood, along...

    Large hawthorn stump

The trick to burning out stumps is to burn it from the INSIDE. Drill a whole load of holes with the biggest auger bit you can find about 150mm deep (or deeper if you can) down into the heart, then attack it with a hatchet to mash it all up a bit and then set fire to this dry chipped up mush in...

    Large hawthorn stump

Burn it out. And drink more beer.

    Cutting a board square

Where did you buy your Glass makers square from? I need a decent large square for site work and I've been looking for a good glaziers one for a while.

    Joinery Details

I'm wondering does anyone know of a decent book/text book showing standard joinery details for windows, doors, stairs etc - basic builders joinery items. My padwan is about to take a couple of months off touring the states and wants such a book to accompany him on his travels. I've got a ragged...

So how would you cut this joint?

I'd cut the little tenon first - bandsaw/handsaw/bit of both. Next would be the mortice - whatever method you favour. The dovetail-ish piece would be next, cutting the bevels on a table saw, although by hand would work but a bit fiddly due to short strokes. Last of all I'd do the big...

How to Cut Down Trees without a Chainsaw?

Like Random said a chainsaw is no more dangerous than a Gobstopper (you can't hire them in the UK either) There are some excellent videos produced by Stihl on youtube that would get you going. I've been using chainsaws for most of my life after having 5 minutes of instruction in a wet field by...

    Pelotons

Isn't the phrase 'a little extreme' an oxymoron?

    Best 'value' laptop....

+1 for the MacBooks. I'm running a 2009 15" UniBody Pro running El Capitan and Parallels for Windoze apps. The kids use a MacBook White edition (bloody ancient) for games and stuff. My son is learning to code C# on it. Plenty of life in all of them (the computers, not the kids)

How do you straighten a warped piece of wood?

I think the key point is that made by Custard - essentially the likelihood of a decent outcome with any woodworking project begins once the tree has been cut down. You don't get much say in how the wood is processed (unless it's your tree) but it's at the selection stage that most gains are...

She wants to stick a wine bottle where?!

Like I said earlier - a deep pocket router bit. Wealden make one that will do 85mm deep. Go in from both sides. That should do it.
