    Different ideas show and tell

By the way, that last post was tongue in cheek - I'd obviously keep them and make slippers.

    Different ideas show and tell

There's a couple of badgers that come into my garden most nights. If I shoot them how much will you give me for the pelts?

    bar build

Go with good glue and the biscuits for economy. Or bo**ocks to the slope and buy a Domino - in fact get a domino in each size and the mitre lock cutter just in case!! That's probably what I would do.... :?

    Small workshops

Mine's about 780 square feet, although that includes a loo and kitchenette (or at least it will do when I plumb them in!)

    David's story: Road Safety Campaign

Bearing in mind that an object coming straight at you is very unlikely to attract your attention, he wasn't wearing anything particular Hi-Viz and he was riding like an ***** I'd say that whilst sad and all that he was kind of asking for trouble. Riding at 97mph is a deliberate act and on that...

CALLING ALL WOODTURNERS - SUPPORT THE MONTHLY CHALLENGE

I'd join in but I haven't got a lathe and don't know how to turn. That aside I'm keen as mustard.

    Morticer or Domino

I've made front doors, garden gates, patio tables and benches and two playhouses all of which used the Domino XL extensively. Others have said it but I'll say it too, you can easily do a through M&T with one. Just think of it as a hand held mortiser. Drawboring/pinning the tenons makes a joint...

    Sprung pin cabinet hinges

Giff, did you manage to ever find such a hinge? The missus has asked me to build her a bathroom cabinet with mirror doors and I plan on bonding the mirror to 12mm board and then using a similar type of hinge to the ones you've described in Stainless Steel. Can't find anything on Hafele site.

Workbench build - WIP - Almost finished and a small treat!!

Thanks for that JJ - much appreciated. Because my photography isn't that good you can't see all the little defects/gaps and misalignments, so in some ways I'm a bit miffed that i didn't correct some of the little errors as I went along. They end being compounded into unfixable things later on...

My first post - do I need to go shopping yet?

For the MDF furniture you'll need a good cordless drill, a circular saw, a good straight edge and not much else. A jigsaw is useful, sanders always save a bit of sweating, but it can be done with very little. On the other hand, if you want it be fun as well then by a Festool track saw and rail...

Workbench build - WIP - Almost finished and a small treat!!

So - nearly finished. Tool slot and tool well made up and clamped - all went well (ish) Then the whole lot was glued up and clamped together. The vice got fitted without too much of a problem. Planing down the top was fun (not) but I got there in the end. Pictures below. And 'cos I was...

My first post - do I need to go shopping yet?

Just get started on the jobs, and when you can't do something as well as you'd like go and get the best tool for the job that you can afford.

Anyone ever had their own house built?

As a builder/site manager one of the things that i would recommend you pay particular attention to are the actual construction details. For example, its not uncommon for architects to specify internal stud walls as 3 x 2 with 12.5mm plasterboard either side. Now I know that this is fairly...

Axminster Trade Series AW10BSB2 Saw Bench - Blade Tilt

Just spoken to Axi with my list of woes and received the following answers: Q: When adjusting the rise and fall of the blade it does not maintain it's bevel setting. i.e. if the blade is fully up and bang on 90 digs as measured with a digital Gemred bevel box referenced from the table itself...

Axminster Trade Series AW10BSB2 Saw Bench - Blade Tilt

I have the AW12BSB2 which is the same saw but a bit bigger and mine does exactly the same thing. I'm going to call Axi today as there are a few other niggles. The blade won't rise to the full stated height - should be 100mm only rises to 95 The table insert doesn't sit flush with the table. I...
