    Which Bandsaw

Thanks for the offer Martin. I don't need to decide just yet. I will come over next week though for sure. Are we still on for Monday at mine? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Which Bandsaw

It's time for me to invest in a 'proper' bandsaw. I'm looking to spend around £1300 - £1500 and would ideally like to get a machine that can handle about 6 hrs a week usage, and can cut a decent 3 or 4mm slice from a 200mm board. It needs to be single phase. I don't have the time to play around...

Is this a job for Sanding Sealer?

More to the point, how cool is it that the Norwegians have a tech support department for an entire city. Not only that but they know all about finishing Oil as well !!

Is this a job for Sanding Sealer?

Just got off the blower to Oslo tech support and here's what they told me: (this will probably cause a bit of a fuss) If applying by brush or roller then only sand to 120g. No denying or sanding between coats. 2 coats is all you need. If applying by cloth and wiping off, then sand up to (but...

    Carpenter, Joiner, Woodworker

Stairs are classed as joinery items, therefore made by joiners. Although some of the staircases I've seen recently installed into new builds look like they were put together by ******** swamp donkeys.

    Help with Record 71

Andy, that's extremely kind of you. Thank you indeed. PM on the way.

    Help with Record 71

I've just recently dusted down my Record 71 from the top shelf and had a go with it - works beautifully (and why wouldn't it) but the fence screw and washer are missing. I have no knowledge of threads and the associated voodoo that some of you engineering/toolmaking types do. Could someone...

    Carpenter, Joiner, Woodworker

Cabinet makers and woodworkers work to the nearest 10th of a mm Joiners work to the nearest half of a mm. Carpenters get it spot on. (or so they reckon)

    Clean cutting.

Put decent quality masking tape over the line of the cut, mark your cut line and then cut it with a circular saw. Worked well for me until I got a Rail Saw, and that works just the same only less fiddling.

    What's it called

Or a ball and socket type thingy like on a rear view mirror fixed to a car windscreen (or in the case of my Landcover, fixed to a lump of mystery wood which is Gripfilled to both the windscreen and the headlining!!)

Is this a job for Sanding Sealer?

The Osmo elves will be getting a call in the AM. I'll report back with any salient info.

Is this a job for Sanding Sealer?

And therein lies the confusion. I have a tin of Chestnut Sanding Sealer and it states on the tin that it's for use prior to application of, amongst other things, wax. Wouldn't it inhibit the wax from entering the wood as well then? Or does Wax behave differently from Oil in terms of soaking...

Is this a job for Sanding Sealer?

So, just to be sure I'm not being an utter dullard, I should sand/scrape my workpieces first, then apply say Cellulose sanding sealer. If I want to apply Oslo Polyx later I de-nib with something very fine (400g) and then Osmo as usual? Is this correct?

Is this a job for Sanding Sealer?

I'm working on a project at the moment making an Oak Sideboard for a client. (I was going to do a WIP but it's not that interesting and is a direct copy of a piece sold online by M&S, only smallerised to fit the clients available space) The project is going to be fitted in around several other...

How good is good enough .... or.... am I wasting my time?

I've got a Bosch glide arm chop sliding mitre saw (GCM 12 GDL) which is about 1 year old, maybe a bit more. It's bolted down to a stand and never leaves the workshop. It makes the vast majority (99.9%) of it's cuts at 90 degrees with the odd mitre here and there. It's well looked after...

    ULMIA Schlichthobel

I know that this is a seriously old thread, but I came across it whilst trying to get some info on german planes. I am hopefully soon to become the proud owner of a collection of pre-war (the first one) and later German woodies, thanks to Mother In Law who is German. A neighbour of hers has...

    First full kitchen build

On a cabinet I made recently with the doors the same as yours (flush to face of cabinet fitted on butts) the tops of the pair of doors fitted fine but the bottom of the LH door stuck out by a gnats whisker - less than 1mm. I removed the door and sanded it out. You do end up sanding almost...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

I don't know how durable Rowan is either, but at least everything you hit with it is getting hit with something that to my eye is very pretty indeed. The last mallet I made I really struggled with the tapered mortice. Goodness only knows how the boys of old made such accurate mortices with...

Centre Punch and Nail Punch recommendation

I use Priory 66 punches for setting nails. I think Axi used to sell them - not sure if they still do. I have to confess that for centre punching I tend to use a masonry nail
