Which tool do you wish you hadn't bought for your workshop?

I've got a bench top mortiser that I bought from a Forum member that has sat under a bench since the day it got here. There's nothing wrong with it - I just use the domino all the time.

    Plywood doors

If you make the middle piece of ply smaller all round by 10mm on each edge then you don't need a tenon.

    Building a media cabinet

If I was doing this I would try and work out how to get the shelf of the top section fitted AFTER the cabinet was fitted, and then hide fixings behind the shelf. As the guys have said there will be considerable weight there and it WILL sag unless properly supported. I'd try and get a good fixing...

Fishing competition prizes & first attempt at pyrography

I think it's called a priest because it 'administers the last rites' sort of thing. Fishermans humour perhaps.

    Poor service Fielder/Hammer UK

I agree Custard. I didn't want to sound like I was gloating since the OP has obviously not had such a good experience.

    Poor service Fielder/Hammer UK

My experience is not going to make you feel any better but...it's my experience. So for the purpose of balance etc... My A3 260 (P/T) has recently started giving less than satisfactory results. I called Hammer and booked in a service at the first mutually convenient date. Service guy turns up...

    Which rebate plane

Mike, I'm not left handed. But I am a feckin' eejit. I've just realised what a totally dumb question I asked. For some reason the idea of turning the wood around didn't cross my addled mind. (or maybe it did and just kept on going!!!) I must admit the idea of the Veritas is tempting since it'll...

    making mitred half lap joints

That has got to be about the scariest thing I've ever seen on a Tablesaw. How he still has all his fingers is a total mystery. (although they do look as though they could have been grafted on!!)

Single or Double Mortice and Tenons

My wife has a double forked tongue. She uses it on.....I'll get my coat. :D :D

    Which rebate plane

I was going to ask the same thing. :)

What are these bolts called/ PROJECT COMPLETED!

And probably made from Unobtanium :)

    Which rebate plane

Thanks for that RJ. I guess you mean one not unlike this: If so, then I've just recently purchased one. I do have some questions about it though. Perhaps on a separate thread.
  13. Zeddedhed

    Which rebate plane

Thanks for that. Should I assume that they can be used either way round - the fence can be switched over along with the depth foot?

    Which rebate plane

Thanks Andy. Something like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Antique-woode ... 48812bc7fe I realise I'll probably not get this one now as everyone else will have a go for it. Unless it's a piece of junk of course.

    Which rebate plane

I'm looking to get hold of a rebate plane for making smallish(ish) rebates approx 12 - 18mm x 10 - 20mm. I know that there are loads of options out there, and I'm currently trying to get rid of one of them (Stanley Duplex Combi rebate plough grooving monster No 45) as I simply can't get on with...

This company may have something that fits the bill... http://www.siso.dk/product/

    Cleaning Diamond stones

I clean mine by dumping them in an ultrasonic cleaning bath for half and hour. I can't really suggest this as cost effective as I have no idea how much these things cost, but I was given mine by a retired Doctor. It's an amazing bit of kit and gets all manner of things squeaky clean (including...

Single or Double Mortice and Tenons

My (limited ) understanding of M&T joints is that the tenon should be approx a third of the thickness of the timber. Therefore 90 x 9. After that I can of no further use...

    Silverline #4

For what it's worth here's my observations on planes of different costs: I have a small selection of hand planes which get used most days for mainly final prep of stock and occasionally for an alternative to machining (although not that often) Normally I'll prep stock with machines and then...

    A Terrible Waste

Probably made by Emir. They still make benches in Kent somewhere I believe. If you could get hold of a van and get the rest out they'd be snapped up here on the bay.
