Help me with hardwood prices please.

I read that as 25mm x 200 x 3m which by my sums comes to £13.30, but then it's Friday afternoon, I've had to listen to the apprentice's Drum'n'bass playlist all day so I could be miles out!! :D

Round Table question - An Update.

So to update on this one..... After a few mock ups and more discussion and some design refinement the table finally got made. Here's some 'photos of what we've ended up with. This is how it went together Detail of the feet And another Anyway, not wanting to gloat or...

    Workbench width

I've asked myself this question often. It seems a lot of people like the narrower bench style. When I built mine I ended going for 750mm (29.5 inches). The rearmost 8 inches are a tool well. Works just fine for me. I like the space - there's plenty of room to stand a piece of furniture on it...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Thanks for that Rodders. I've just taken a proper look at the photo and it really doesn't do it any favours does it? The boards actually match up much better than they look in terms of colour and grain - bad lighting and indifferent photography methinks. Total hours would be approximately 18 or...

What tool did you buy today?

Nothing special - a springbow compass and pair of dividers (Faithfull I think). I got a proper bollocking for borrowing my daughters from her school geometry set and getting Cascamite all over them!!

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Just finished and delivered this cabinet in Oak. I have to say I'm not wildly enthusiastic about it. It was made for a friend who has a load of M&S furniture and wanted this cabinet to match. The M&S one was 100mm to long. Not much fun copying someone else work but hey ho!! It was well paid.

better way to oil chopping boards

I would give the backs a quick oiling first - brush on and then wipe off and buff after 15mins. Then affix 4 self adhesive rubber dots - the sort you have left over from Kitchen fitting (For cushioning the doors when closing) Turn the board over and it will sit clear of a surface and then oil...

    Accoustic insulation

My workshop is constructed from (outside to inside) Siberian Larch cladding on 25mm battens on Membrane (Tyvek) on OSB on 5 x 2 studs with 100mm celotex between on 12.5mm plasterboard on 18mm ply on plaster skim. The final inside layer is thick dust, but I doubt that makes much difference. I...

You could try one of these.

    Gasket material

This works well, although it's best if it's at least 3 or 4 layers thick. You can glue them up oversize with contact adhesive and then cut out the size you need

Festool domino - Has anyone made their own?

Why would using Dominos when jointing boards make the joint any weaker? Generally curious.

cutting flooring around large complex shapes?

At some point in every bathrooms life it needs a hero to come along. Bathrooms are one of the few rooms that seem to attract serial bodging and end up with layer after layer of bodges until Mr Hero arrives. Mr Hero says enough is enough. Out comes all the sanitary ware (at which point Mr Hero...

Jointing oak worktops in an acute corner

Definitely do this. It's a genius idea.

Jointing oak worktops in an acute corner

Option 2 is the one you're looking for. Lay one worktop over the other to mark the angle right on the end of one of the tops then using a router and a straightedge with a long shank kitchen cutter rout the angle cut. Hope that makes sense. Not very good at explaining myself sometimes (ever)

    Bedroom wardrobe - WIP

They'l be fine - an excellent runner. Make sure you order the relevant locking devices too. You should take a look at the Blum Online Catalogue - it's some kind of weird digital book thingy. Go to page 450 (I think) and look at the bottom of the page. It shows how they fit etc
