Harvey COMPASS MG-36 Miter Gauge first look

I will NOT pass that on :) She is more fed up with my moaning each time something fails to meet expectations so it is more preserving her ear drums. She gets enough of my wood talk as it is.

Harvey COMPASS MG-36 Miter Gauge first look

Hi Martin and @Mooose , I went straight to their site. There is a small discount on at present that offset the shipping costs. Compass MG-36 Miter Gauge Sadly, I did not negotiate on alternative shipping and was stung for the usual fedex delivery, tax and "handling fees". The latter were about...

    Axminster craft blade clamp

Well, the clamp mod lasted through the complete project. Not one slip nor any blade breaks. Happy to carry on with the bodge until I find a better solution.

Harvey COMPASS MG-36 Miter Gauge first look

Hi all, Got a bit of spare cash at Xmas and was fed up with the crappy Rutlands "Premium" mitre gauge - about as useful as a chocolate fire guard. Could not hold an angle if it was welded in position .... plus the missus always tells me off for buying cheap crap only to whinge about it within...

    Axminster craft blade clamp

Thank you - yes, experiencing the joys of sneezing while cutting (large unwanted cut!) and the very real differences between blades. Trying to make a shadow art deco box at present for the wife's birthday (despite cat's best attempts to stop me). Experimented with loads of blades to get a feel...

    Axminster craft blade clamp

Yes, a wing bolt would be more accurate. Spent a good few hours yesterday with the clamp and a thin bit of cloth sandpaper in the slot. Did not slip out once - I do like the idea of freeing the side of the clamp though - interesting thought.

    Axminster craft blade clamp

Thank you all, great suggestions. Once again, a good community :) Sadly, yes,, it is their cheap model.

    Axminster craft blade clamp

Not sure if I really wanted to use one so went for an Axminster craft scroll saw. Omg, the blade clamp is driving me mad. I replaced the bolt with a wing nut to make it easier but the blade still keeps slipping out nearly every cut no matter how tight it is screwed. My only solution had been...

    Your Cars

Had a love of cars that far exceeded my ability to pay for a long time. The first was a Austin 13000 - fell to bits. Then a fiat 127, 3 Ford Escorts (one painted in dulux green), a Ford Orion, Mazda GT and a couple of other commuter boxes. My favourites were the Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo (had 2 in...

    Toxic wood : informative read

Though it worth sharing a good article listing the known adverse effects certain woods can cause. USA centric as usual but as newbie, made me think more about masks etc. https://www.royfoley.com/toxicwoods/

Sabre 350 and 1/4" blades ... can't get guides right

Well, found the fix (though will probably order a Carter device). There is an adjustment for the yellow guard - it can be moved back. Did not see these bolts at the back - adjusting these gave enough clearance for the guides to be moved back. Thank you @eezageeza for the pics, helped identify...

Sabre 350 and 1/4" blades ... can't get guides right

Thank you - I will have to revisit mine and see why I can't get the same result - noob alert I guess :) Really appreciate the time you took to do this.

Yup - had crossed my mind but warranty and all that - dunno if they will be picky.

Sabre 350 and 1/4" blades ... can't get guides right

Thank you. The problem is this yellow shield. It stops the runner holding all the guides from going back further. I have asked the Carter people if they do a guide for the Sabre.

Sabre 350 and 1/4" blades ... can't get guides right

Thank you, thought I was doing some newbie faux pas .. phew, not going nuts (well, more than usual).

Sabre 350 and 1/4" blades ... can't get guides right

After any advice. Running the Sabre 350 with 1/4" Tuff blade. All the advice on setup tells me the guide wheels need to be behind the teeth so these don't rub when the blade displaces side to side. Only problem is that the runner on which the 3 guide wheels sit won't go far enough back...

Walnut & Beech (reclaimed) lidded box

Very Moroccan, like it a lot. The finish is very subtle and makes the most of the wood and shape. I just know my cat would break the finial off in moments!
