    Why do they do this???

Well, when everyone is hell bent on buying to a price, the accountant eventually becomes the chief designer. It's so easy to undercut an existing market isn't it, Aldi, Lidl ... what do they add to the sum total of anything worth a rub! Not an innovative product, developed and created in house...

    Glasshouse / Greenhouse roof design

I am looking to build more or less the same and have been thinking about fabricating the ridge/valley to glass connection from say 6 or 9mm medite Tricoya mdf clad in pond liner. It might sound a bit heath robinson but I think a flexible rubber that can be bonded to glass is a good option for a...

    Worx sonicrafter 350 multitool

Ahhh, that's where I went wrong then. I had it on its fastest speed right from the off and it did get quite hot. I also noted that the hook side on the sanding pad seemed to be destroying the fabric on the back of the Worx sanding sheets and clogging the pad. I thought they must be inferior in...

    Worx sonicrafter 350 multitool

I didn't think so but you may be right, I've been taking off a layer of Hicksons breather paint which had gone brittle and was flaking in places ( I'd cleaned it with a household mould spray, which may have caused this ??) so it all had to go right back to the primer.

    Worx sonicrafter 350 multitool

Just bought one of these and very pleased so far, just knackered the velcro sanding pad thing and wonder if there is a preferred/better alternative to the worx own brand. I just looked at the Merka pad saver from Axminster which seem like a good idea, are these any good? The worx pad did quite...

    Blackjack flashing tape fail

No, I didn't warm it but it was a very hot day, about three to four weeks ago now. But that sounds like it could be the problem, all I did was push the tape into the primed surface as hard as I could by hand. I'd never used it before so didn't know, but it makes sense now I think about it :roll...

    Blackjack flashing tape fail

Anyone had a problem with this stuff. I just installed a polycarbonate roof against a brick wall and used Everbuild blackjack flashing 150mm wide, with 75mm on the bricks and 75mm onto plastic. I primed the brickwork with blackjack primer as per instructions and pressed the flashing tape firmly...

    Outdoor protection for hidden timber

Why not lay a new 4" thick slab of concrete (with reinforcing mesh) over the existing slabs and have a solid floor? easy, cheap and rot proof plus you get to get things spot on for level. For any workshop with machines being run, a solid floor is by far the most suitable if you can go that way.

    Bosch 14.4V 1.5AH batteries

I think I'll go for a pair of those, thanks for the link, that looks like a decent seller. I chucked all but one of the old batteries away or I might have looked into having them re-celled. Cheers.

    Bosch 14.4V 1.5AH batteries

Hi, I have two Bosch drill drivers that have been sitting in my workshop unused now for about two years. They both came with 14.4 V 1.5 ah batteries that wore out and died, so, I need new batteries but where to get them from?? Any suggestions most welcome.

    Cutting List Software

[/i] Whats wrong with a pencil and the back of an envelope? NOTHING! Its just too complicated for the modern world, it requires understanding, a knowledge of the subject and the materials properties, who needs that? All you need to know today is how to work the app isn't it? All these old...

What did you do in your workshop today ?

A perfectly normal day for me, glad I'm not the only one. A good beer ceremony is now essential to celebrate this pointless yet crucial activity. Hic!

Any idea on what these are for?

You got off lightly there, it should have taken weeks to identify such a weird tool. I think there could be a TV program in this lark... Spot and identify the tool... Oh, hang on... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjdoVtL248M

A couple of questions about built ins

If you don't mind me asking Bob, how are you finishing the external corner of this unit and its connection/finish to the floor. If you are creating a new (to be painted) external corner in this area, it will obviously get clouted a lot and will need to be dent/scuff resistant and hard wearing...
