    garden hose fittings

Oh, and the implausibly cheap rubber seals from China on ebay are in fact perfectly good, just very very slow to arrive. So buy some now for next year!

    garden hose fittings

Geka are the standard hose fittings in the horticultural industry; they're built for 'industrial' usage rather than domestic, and so are inevitably much tougher than anything you'll find in the garden centre. I'm still using ones that are more than 20 years old! However, be aware that...

    Comet Neowise

Any one clever enough to work out if those instructions are good for Cyprus as well as the UK? Should do! It'll be a bit lower in the sky probably but early evening as soon as it gets dark it should be high in the northwest

    Am I alone?

We buy from Sainsburys online for my mum, who is also shielding, and she often complains that the stuff that arrives is not of the best quality. We put it down to the picker/driver being under time pressure, and assuming that quality control has been carried out before the goods get on the...

Very generous present ( not woodwork )

What does the sticker on the downtube say? It'll be something like 'Reynolds 531'. Just curious as that will be a good indication of where the bike stands in the quality hierarchy. I worked at the Raleigh factory in Nottingham in the late 70's /early 80's, and a lot of Dawes bikes were...

    Wasp woes

They're beneficial insects - please try really hard to live with them for a few months! They're important pollinators, and predators on lots of garden pests, so are an important part of the environment. We get them most years in our roof space, but simply ignore them, and they return the...

    Argh, we have carpet moths!!

When we had a similar problem a few years ago, we found an insect-o-cutor (other electronic bug zap brands are available!) left on 24/7 sorted it. We chose that over the chemical spray route largely because we expected the insecticide to stink!

    Sticky situation

But whiskers is from Canada, where PVA is widely known as 'yellow wood glue'. Best if we wait for clarification from the OP!

    Sticky situation

Gorilla Glue is PU, not PVA. It's that nasty expanding stuff which turns your fingers black. Not necessarily - Gorilla make both the original Gorilla brand glue, which is PU, but also a Gorilla brand wood glue, which is PVA.

    central heating oil

Needs must I'm afraid - no mains gas, and using electricity to heat the house would be eye wateringly expensive, so oil it has to be.

    central heating oil

Yeah, I just checked the quote again, and the 19p was for immediate delivery; waiting until next week drops the price to 17.5p. Very tempted to fill the tank! :D

    central heating oil

Blimey, checked the price again today - 2000 lts at 19p per lt!! Might be time to fill that tank!

    Spring comes regardless...

If they are bird cherries, then the botanical name is Prunus padus. Can't really tell from that photo; if they are bird cherry, then they are going to be rather big, eventually, along that drive ...

    Coronavirus

We got a vulnerable older relative registered as a new customer at Sainsburys last week - if you go on their website and try to register as a new customer it transfers you to a gov.uk site which asks if you've had a letter, alongwith some other personal details, and if you answer all those...

    central heating oil

Currently 30p/ lt in Shropshire, but I guess there's still some downside to come. I remember being really fed up when it went up from 9p to 15p / lt back in the late 90's, so even 30p / lt sounds expensive to me!

    Coronavirus

This short video, made by a couple of family members, rams home the 'stay at home' message. Preaching to the converted here I guess, but please give it a minute of your time, and share it as widely as you are able. It might just save a life. Thanks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXrUbZCdQzU

    Friendship vs Greed

I used to work in an industry that supplied all the major UK grocers - a few years ago now, but I imagine the logistics are still much the same. The retailers typically held no more than a weeks stock on their premises - both in shops, and central distribution warehouses. We held more...

    Coronavirus

The incubation period for Covid 19 is supposed to be 5 - 10 days, so it would've been lightening quick if that's what you've got. But who knows - information is a bit sketchy to say the least.

    Coronavirus

Note that this guy has previously written about how to write a blog post that will go viral, and that the expert sources he cites are much more cautious and equivocal than he is, on the same data.
