    I was given 8 slices of Ash, around 250mm diameter and and about 35mm thick - I season quite a lot of timber for turning and had them stacked outside with good separation between them - after 2 years only 2 of them hadn’t split - and when I cut through the split ones the middle was still over...

    It looks like you have a small screw chuck on the bench under the middle of the lathe - if that fits securely in the jaws you could screw that into a small blank, bring the tailstock up and have a go while you are waiting for the faceplate…

    Blimey - like many I stumbled into it through desire rather than any skill - I bought a 2nd hand Clarke CWL1000 through eBay which, to my wife’s disgust, stayed in our kitchen for about 6 months before we moved and I had room in my workshop. Anything over about an 8” bowl would shake the frame...

    Finished the slightly uglier bigger brother to the last bowl - it was very old, very hard and very dry lump of elm and if I never turn an elm and resin bowl again it will be too soon! (Although the last piece of the slab is in resin and might try some sort of vase..!!)
