    Lumberjack Filter cartridge

Thanks! At least it shows that they exist!! Sadly that particular one is currently unavailable - I'll look on...

    Lumberjack Filter cartridge

I have a basic Lumberjack 1100 dust bucket - the filter cartridge has fallen to pieces - and I had expected the Lumberjack website to list such an obvious spare part. I am either blind or stupid, but I can't find one there - or elsewhere. The generic things I can see seem to have a c. 150mm...

    Downloading images for laser engraving

That looks useful, thanks! I've (reasonably successfully) burned about half of the tiles - BUT my little laser is, I think, not powerful enough to engrave deeply enough to accept the acrylic colouring I want. This project had to go on hold for a bit (temperature in the workshop among other...

    Downloading images for laser engraving

Thanks for that! I downloaded that file (other similaar-looking ones on the same site didn't seem to offer a one-off option) - and set to. Then - sadly - SWMBO said, "but that one's different from ours - and that one - and that one..." So I've set to after all and photographed our set and I'm...

    Downloading images for laser engraving

I'm making a Mah Jong set for my daughter. The box is well on the way (not as highly carved as our own Chinese one!) using some Indian Rosewood from an old table top. The tiles are all cut (made out of Castello "boxwood"). They need some fininshing but of course they also need to be engraved...

    Hunting masonry drills

Probably not... I made enquiries a while ago. They promised, "easy!" - but never came up with the goods. In addition, the cost of the new chuck, combined with the fact that I would then be discarding (and needing to replace) a number of drill bits and core drills will almost certainly put this...

    Hunting masonry drills

I've got an aged masonry drill (Spit 330). It was bought in the '80s for installing electric damp proof courses. The drill bits are a form of SDS - but they are NOT the same as a standard SDS bit as can be bought anywhere - there is a long slot one side and a short lock slot on the other. I...

    8.A New toy

Yes. We're talking about 3D printed things - and that's very much ON topic. The point is that keen new 3D printer owners rush around, 3D printing EVERYTHING. In the case of a feather board, you need to step back and ask, "Is this a good way to make a feather board?" It is not a matter just of...

    Spray (or other) glue

Yes. I've tried that - and I do use it (or very similar) for quite a lot of things. However, it is only practicable for relatively small things - up to about A4 is possible. Over a bigger area (we're talking A0 here), by the time you've covered it all, the first bits of glue tend to dry up.

    Spray (or other) glue

and All the Generic Cans I've tried are either "Repositionable" - ie they peel off easily - or they are thick "carpet adhesive" which leaves a very lumpy surface. It's not sometimes very clear which cans deliver which product. 3M do a variety - ReMount is like a post-it note. SprayMount...

    Spray (or other) glue

I have a (fairly frequent) need to mount printed sheets onto white foam board for display purposes. I am currently using 3M Photo Mount which does the job I want - but it is at a premium price! Is there a better way to do this? It needs to give a good, strong and permanent bond It needs to...

    Joke Thread II

Maybe - but I don't know, so I won't pretend. I suspect though, it may have been one of the comic writers. My money would be on Aristophanes (b. c.450BC). It's the sort of thing he would write about. Aesop was more into moral tales.

    Joke Thread II

I believe that it featured in the writings of one of the Greek writers, several hundred years BC.

How do you know you're getting old...

I grew up in a rural area - and can still vividly remember the excitement in the village when a farmer brought the first tractor into the parish. Can also remember happy hours, to and fro, sitting on a Wesh Cob mowing or ploughing with a bit of baler twine to hang onto. They used to bring the...

    Paper plant pot maker plans?

Indeed. All paper has a "grain". I rather think that, instead of "turn the page over and try again", that might read better, "turn the page around and try again". It will tear better along the grain than across it. Paper also does have a top and a bottom. If you balance a stack of (say) 100...

    Paper plant pot maker plans?

Do the dimensions matter? Measure your seed trays and decide how many rows and columns of pots you want. Remember that a round paper pot will squash into a roughly square shape. - so work out a diameter. Decide how tall. Yes. Sweet Peas want a taller one Make it. Look at the shape of the...

    hotmail access blocked

Always remember, too, that when you use any "free" provision (like Hotmail or Googlemail or whatever), you are not their customer. You are the product that they are selling.

    Rope Warming

The whole thing was interesting! She suggests a piano heater. In this particular installation, I suspect that what I see on the net will be less than ideal because it is a long and thin unit - and I think I need a short and fat one to fit in the bottom of the "tube". Same again, Tris. The pad...

    Rope Warming

Foam pipe insulation would simply prevent the ropes from drying. They would take a long time to put on and off too. Taking a rope off takes around 10 minutes plus the time to climb the 56 spiral steps and unlock the belfry door and clamber onto the frame. Putting it on and adjusting it for...

    Shed roof

That would be excellent stuff. And I see I could get it in wide widths so I could cover the roof in a seamless sheet. I can see only one snag. She could buy a roll of cheap shed felt for around £16. The site I looked at was quoting, for the same area, £113.88 I very much doubt that a rubber...
