    creaky stairs -advice please

I cured our creaks with a combination of screwing down loose treads and also filling all the gaps and cracks with expanding polyurethane glue. Silent now. 👍

    Electrical testing for lighting products

I've done that with other lamps and sold them all in makers galleries. I found that people have a perceived upper limit of what they'll pay for a lamp so the extra work and attention to detail involved in doing that, was very rarely noticed or appreciated. The flex used is in itself a lovely...

    Electrical testing for lighting products

I've made quite a few lamps and my approach or my thinking, perhaps wrongly, is that they are made up of parts that are all CE marked. So the flex, the bulb holder, the plug, all certificated. I would then get them PAT tested too. These for example I made the bases, but the actual lamps are...

    Is my router good enough?

It'll be fine. It's basically a solid router and nice and powerful but like most things it has a few 'idiosyncrasies' that you get used to. I still use mine. I just don't use it in the table due to the auto lock not working and access to the collet being tricky. Hope you enjoy it 😊👍

    Is my router good enough?

I have had a few Triton routers now and unfortunately have had quite a few issues with them, usually in terms of build quality. I had to return a Tra001 about 3 times to Screwfix before I got one that didn't sound like the bearings were going to implode. I had the Tra001 mounted permanently in...

    Making a wooden butter churn.

The metal hoops are most probably made in the same way as wagon/cart wheels. The hoop is made very slightly small, chucked in a fire to get nice and hot and expand, then hammered on whilst hot. As it cools it shrinks and pulls everything rock solid.

Reclaimed wood how do you price

When a client suggests reclaimed wood to me I usually sigh a little, even though I've used it for many things. By its nature, reclaimed wood will take an awful lot longer to source, sort and process than 'off the shelf' timber. It's so often full of nails, old paint or ground in grit...
