Wood burning stove for the workshop?

Thanks Izzy. That has really given me something to consider. I have googled oil heaters and that might be the answer to my heating dilemma. They seem relatively cheap to run (5 hours heat per litre for 5 kw) if I have understood the blurb. Is that a reasonable estimate? Also less space...

Wood burning stove for the workshop?

In this cold weather my thoughts have turned to workshop heating. It is hard for me to justify turning on electric heaters just for one person when we are being so careful in the house so I am thinking of fitting a woodburner. If you have done this can you any recommendations for a small (and...

    Respirators for children

Thank you Ollie. I have also found that a company called North (part of Honeywell) also do a range of PPE masks and I will make further enquiries shortly.

    Respirators for children

Thank you Sean and Johna. I also had concerns about the fitting. My Airshield was not sufficiently close fitting around the face to provide a good fit for a child. I will contact JSP and ask their advice but I am not optimistic. I may have to continue with a dust mask and face shield.

    Respirators for children

My grandchildren, aged 7 and 9 (soon to be 8 and 10), have taken an interest in my workshop but I am concerned about them being subjected to dust. I use an Airshield Pro most of the time but can't find anything suitable for children. Even my oldest grandchild finds an adult Airshield Pro too...

    Axminster "Steb" Centres

Hi Robbo [Was it a lathe without a hollow headstock that your drive got stuck in? If so you need a thread protector which also acts as a drive ejector.] Thanks for your reply. I am not entirely sure what you mean by "a lathe without a hollow headstock" but my lathe had a hollow threaded...

    Axminster "Steb" Centres

I have been intending to buy Steb centres but I see that Axminster have their own version. Are they as good as the originals? After discussing this with another woodturner I have serious doubts but would be interested in other people's experiences as they are considerably cheaper. As a matter...

    Lathe servicing

Your diagnosis may well be right but when I had a CL3 (my first lathe) some years ago I was convinced that there was a fault with the headstock and it felt as if the lathe was turning off centre. I renewed the bearing but that didn't help so I sold it. I later realised that there had been...

    Hollowing tools

Following a trip to Derek (Dalboy"s) shiny new workshop and a very helpful chat with Mark Sanger I decided on the Crown Revolution hollower but using a Simon Hope quick release handle that can also be used on my existing Simon Hope Pro hollowing tool. That seemed to be a good compromise and...

    Hollowing tools

Thank you for this suggestion and looking at the Lyle Jamieson system lead me to a Stewart Furini video showing the Simon Hope Easy Arm system they both seem to make relatively light work of hollowing. They are tempting but I think that I am likely to stay with a more "manual" system at the...

    Hollowing tools

Thank you Greg, Paul and Derek for your helpful advice. Having noted the information provided and making further enquiries I am now considering extending my Simon Hope range of tools so that I can cope with larger hollow forms if necessary without changing to a completely new (and expensive)...

    Hollowing tools

Hi Dave. I had looked at reviews of the Rolly Munro tool and they were all very good. I think that they were sold by Axminster and Toolpost and, no doubt, others. Unfortunately, they seem to have fallen out of fashion in the UK and I didn't find a UK supplier but still seem to be available in...

    Hollowing tools

I want to buy a hollowing tool(s) but am bewildered by the choices available. Whatever I decide on it seems likely that the cost will be high so I will appreciate any advice given, especially as there are no shows at the moment where tools can be seen being demonstrated. I have considered the...

    16 Amp supply for bandsaw

Hi Steve I stuck with the 2 metre extension lead for a week or two but then realised that I had a similarly constructed lead for our caravan that is about 30 centimetres long so I used that instead as there is less lead to get in the way. The bandsaw has had constant use since it arrived and...

    Cfitbeats.com

I contacted my credit card company, Nationwide Bank, and provided details of the trading company and their "bank" and offered to forward to them a copy of the email from that bank confirming cancellation of my intended order. Much to my surprise they weren't the slightest bit interested and...

    Cfitbeats.com

I have come across this seller on the internet and wondered whether anyone else has had any dealings with them. They can be found at https://www.cfitbeats.com. They offer various items for purchase including some tools etc that may be of interest to woodworkers/turners. For example they offer...

    Workshop Wiring

Hi Paul, Roy, GF21 and others. For obvious reasons I was concerned at the suggestion that my proposed installation could prove fatal, especially as I have young grandchildren who like to "make something" (albeit that they can't at the moment). As a result I have done some more research, sent an...

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

When I were a lad we only had 2 channels BBC and ITV. Some people only had televisions that received BBC.
