    Kitchen cabinets.

The reason Maple moves more in UK? We get all the sub standard US timber exports. Nice workmanship for sure but really easy with the equipment you have. Biggest problem? So yesterday, designs from 40 years ago. Try summut new, fgs !

Moving 18mm sheets without killing myself

If you can afford a crate of 18mm birch plywood just to make cabinets you can afford local labour to help out. Get a grip!

    Retirement options

lol There are 4 options for retirement because all old dinks have very little imagination and so follow the crowd. 1. The lower class option; claim even more benefits than you did before and spend the rest of your days watching the tele. 2. Working class; spend most of your days in your...

River bank edging - Which timber?

Been there done that....so my advice is do nothing to that river bank without consultation and specification from and with Environment Agency, Rivers Authority, your insurance company. If you don't you could end up in jail. Simple.

Won't somebody think of "young people"? (Edit: and No, older people aren't "to blame")

My granddad, shot to pieces at Ypres, sang "We're Here Because We're Here" in the trenches and sang it again when he was teaching me how to make Windsor chairs. So just stop moaning and discussing pointless aspects of life that, in the fullness of time, mean nothing. Accept you're ere cos you're...

    Possible can of worms

I have a Robert Sorby pro edge and I too would never go back to wet grindstones. Razor sharp very time and so quick. You do need to purchase the complete range of belts though especially the three trizac belts. Then finish the edge with leather strop and paste.

    Hardwood buying advice.

My experience is..... Purchasing sawn timber is not necessarily any cheaper when you consider timber selection ,wastage, work involved in planing and cost of machinery, running and maintenance. Plus: if you order planed timber and it comes in crap then you can send it back. That is far less...

    Latest Kitchen

Depends how good your joint mechanics are. Would have been better had you rotated the work surface 90 degrees and so had your oak slats aligned different. It is a good job for sure but is not difficult in a well equipped workshop with modern machinery.

    Troubleshooting plane.

My advice is: I have only ever had the best results using my Record 5 1/2 plane. All adjustments as stated here but generally.....you should use a better make of plane, the right model of plane and you are probably expecting too much from the timber, the quality of which is almost certainly...

Kitchen worktop clamps - I feel that I'm missing something?

Hello. I have been manufacturing kitchens for 40 years and fitted many a worktop in my time. We didn't generally make the worktops however. Laminated and timber worktops all have their own quirks and the biggest problem prior to jointing is bowing over the width of the joint, that's why we...

    Record Rosewood Handles?

This 4 1/2 has been seriously interfered with for profit. The handle is a modern mass produced replacement ( genuine pre war rosewood handles have a rounded side profile, characterful grain dimples and are distinct in their appearance) the trade label has been lifted from another handle and the...
