    americans and blade guards

Coming from the hobbyist view ... The average wood worker is not going to have the space or money for that kind of kit. And you don't have to have them to do things safely. You just have to accept that the cheaper ways are going to be slower and less convenient. For example you could quite...

    Bench top planer recommendations?

It depends on what is causing the snipe. From my understanding, there are two issues : 1) The timber itself is not supported and so can dip. Longer beds will help here. 2) The cutter block can move (rotate) as the piece passes through from only one roller to two. Some machines have a lock to...

    Bench top planer recommendations?

I really haven't found a suitable solution to the snipe. - Longer infeed/outfeed : didn't help - Locking the head : I don't have this option, but from what I have read, it doesn't seem to help much - Lifting as the boards go through : inconsistant - Putting through at an angle : doesn't reduce...

    Parcelforce and the CBA message

I never really have a problem other than the private companies that do the Amazon deliveries. They are incredibly impatient. I've timed it, and they give you about 8 seconds to answer the door before they start walking off. I'm sure it's not their fault, but more ridiculous deadlines

    road cycling

My brother has recently joined the caravan w**ker club. He's only 35. So sad :( ...  :P On the plus side, you can "drive" it by remote control, .... albeit verrrrrrrrrrrrrry slowly. Something to do with correcting it when you park up.

First try at router finger cutting - plyboard exploded

It doesn't really mater what material you use, it's going to blowout (to some extent) unless you have a backer piece. It's one of the main reasons the tablesaw is the prefered approach.

Improved Zero Clearance Insert for Tablesaw

Ah interesting. I always thought that these machines would have plenty of gaps in the construction and if anything, you'd be trying to seal them. Always learning! Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk

Improved Zero Clearance Insert for Tablesaw

Not sure I understood what he meant at the end of the video in regard to better extraction within the cabinet itself. I thought you wanted to seal up any air vents to improve extraction? not create more air vents?

    Festool TS55 Rip cut blade

I think I'm going to go with the 18T, the 12T does look a bit scary!

    Festool TS55 Rip cut blade

Did you let the blade get up to speed first? I've seen a few people plunge as soon as they press the trigger. My TS55 takes a few seconds to get up to speed.

    Festool TS55 Rip cut blade

Well - I'd say anything from 15 to 25mm. So perhaps I should go for the 18 teeth?

    Festool TS55 Rip cut blade

I'm wanting to purchase a rip cut blade for my TS55 to rip ~25mm Oak. What blade would people recommend please? I see Festool themselves do rip cut blades with 12, 18 and 28 teeth. Assuming I'm not looking for a super clean cut, as it will be planed after, should I go with the 12 teeth?

    Working hours experiment

The better managers are the ones that have worked their way up through the roles that they are actually managing. The worst are the ones that go straight into managerial positions because they studied it in college.

    Working hours experiment

I'd be worried that people will rush the work, and standards will slip. So you might be as productive as before, i.e. getting the same amount of work done, ...but will it be to the same quality? If people were being very productive previously, and standards were high previously, then you can't...

    Working hours experiment

"Productivity must be maintained." I'd change that to : "Productivity and quality must be maintained" So are you expecting them to do the same amount of work in 36.5 as 38?

Edge joining boards (or pieces thereof)

Assuming there were no huge gaps between the joints (PVA is not a gap filling glue), it might be the glue itself. Try it again on some scrap pine or something

    Spiral head bench top thicknessers?

Are there any offerings other than the Axminster one? Getting really tired of the snipe on my Triton. I know there are workarounds, I've done plenty of research, and tried most of them. Yes they work, but they're a bit of a faff.

    How accurate are rulers?

Surely you're more likely to have more user error than anything else - perspective between eyes? one eye shut? reading at a slight angle? - are you holding the ruler square to the edge? and perhaps not as square the next time? - are you pulling the tape measure as taut as you were previously...
