    Magazines

You missed the point I was trying to make. Id agree that magazines are being phased out, but 10+ knitting magazines and not a single woodworking one. Its bizzare. Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk

    Magazines

I wasn't looking to buy one, just wanted a squiz. I genuinely dont get it though, I'd have thought the ratio of knitting to wood working would be about the same. Guess not. Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk

    About to take the plunge.

Basically, I found that the original bearings had far to much play. It's recommened to get a hairs width of distance between the blade and the bearing, and with the originals, as they pivot, it's impossible. Just too much slop. It's very strange that they would produce that kind of design...

    About to take the plunge.

I have the BS300. The bearings are pretty poor. I upgraded them with the axminster kit. But unfortunatley it does mean some irreversible modifications. Im happy with it. Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk

So what you're saying is that don't need skill, just better equipment? [WINKING FACE] Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk

Woodwork hand tool demo. chisel question

I'd completely disagree and you're setting people up for frustration. Tell them to buy a simple £10 honing guide, so they can actually know how a sharp tool should feel, look and behave. Only then should they begin to attempt freehand sharpening. They need something to compare against. Small...

Woodwork hand tool demo. chisel question

So are these people that have never done wood working before? If so - don't start with sharpening, it'll send them off to sleep. Explain the tool and how it's used, then move on to maintenance.

Do you really need a vice on a bench?

I would like to make my vice (typical record 9") into the spinny wheel type, so you can just give it a quick spin to open several inches at a time.

    Yorkshire grit?

Hampshire Sheen is more of a brand (covering waxes, oils, sealers etc) I assume you mean Hampshire Sheen Original Paste Wax (or the high gloss), which is as its says, a paste wax. Yorkshire Grit is an abrasive paste.

    Cascamite and Iroko

For those of us that might not use it in months, I wonder if it should always be good practise to always knock up a test piece when using Cascamite? to see if it is off or not. Better safe than sorry.

    Cheap chinese marking out tools?

I have a few of the banggood tools, and am impressed with the quality. Accurate, square and well milled. Don't bother with the marking tools with the mechanical pencil holes though. Far too big to be of any use. Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk

    Yorkshire grit?

I've been doing the following on Oak : - abrade to 320 grit - apply sanding sealer (I use cellulose), and wait till dry, denib - yorkshire grit - microcrystalline Wax, wait till dry, buff wouldn't the sealer fill the pores?

    Yorkshire grit?

I've only just started using it, but I find that it almost acts as a finish itself. I applied it to some oak and not only did it end up looking like a smooth wax finish, but it also darkened the wood too. So bear that in mind. Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk

Not sure how dust could affect electrics. Are you saying you vacuumed out some dust from the switch and it magically started working? That seems unlikely. I wonder if there was a lose connection that you unintentionally nudged into place. Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk

Dust extraction advice for mitre saw....

You kind of want to score as you're pulling back though. If you push through the whole cut, you'll get tear out on the top.

Dust extraction advice for mitre saw....

As mitre saws tend to spew dust all over, I think you'll have the best results with an enclosed mitre box, hooked up to a large extractor (not a shop vac). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5tOIBfA8V8

Do you really need a vice on a bench?

On a side note though, how clever is that scissor vice thing in that woodwright video?

Ah - fair point about people changing to a normal 13A plug from a 16A one, but in this case, this saw is sold with a normal 13A plug

Its an OK saw. I don't think its worth repairing unless its only going to be cheap components. I certainly wouldn't replace the motor and I very much doubt they'll even sell you one as a spare part. Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk
