I find that any kind of flexible lamp often (but not always) gets in the way. I think something mounted from above would work best really. I saw somone the other day put a small set of LED lights on the back of the tool rest, facing into the bowl. So they're basically completely out of the way.

I don't think that is the same thing though. The swivel things I mentioned have a "ball and socket" - ish type joint so you can clamp things that are not parallel.

Clever idea! ... given that most laser pens fit on a key ring, you could get this down in size to no bigger than the arbour itself. Not sure about battery life though.

Needs to be M8.

cheers for the suggestions guys. Swivel feet look like a winner. Just need to find some at a good price. It needs to have a bit of tilt, else I would have just used an M8 bolt.
