Are Grippers much safer than push sticks?

But if you are cutting a piece that wants to close up, it doesn't really help? The only reason I can think of where it helps is if your fence was incorrectly set and the tail end is skewing into the blade.... but then thats a setup issue?

    Social distancing, .. what's that?

So you actually responded to the thread that you want to be ignored, which will now mark you as as contributed, and show up even more for you. Smart move!

    Social distancing, .. what's that?

Why do you need to respond to a thread (several times) just to let people know you're not interested or won't be reading it? If it doesn't interest you, just skip over the thread in the first place. Do you walk into shops you're not interested in just let the staff know you won't be shopping...

Are Grippers much safer than push sticks?

He's literally watching him make the dangerous mistakes and only correcting him after the cut has been made. But hey ho - he needs content for his youtube channel, right?

    Social distancing, .. what's that?

Of course. I'm fully aware when social distancing applies.

    Social distancing, .. what's that?

Looking at recent photos being uploaded from Friends/Family on my Facebook wall, it seems that social distancing has now gone out the window. I suppose it's to be expected. Us humans can't stick to the rules for very long before we get bored ... but still slightly worrying.

how many courses of brick before the wood frame??

If they were odd sized/shaped bricks it might look better. But the fact that they're regular sized/shaped bricks makes it just look messy. I'd also guess that this would actually take more effort and more forethought ... so no .. I don't see the point.

    No work today

I can dream! If it's indoor, I don't think I would bother heating it. I remember using an unheated indoor pool on all my holidays as a kid. It was still great! ... asumming you kept moving :P

    No work today

Fair enough. It obviously depends on how much enjoyment you get out of it. Thats quite a lot more than I would have expected for quite a small pool. But if I had the funds, I still think I would go for it. Although I would want an indoor pool, not an out door one. Perfect for over here in the...

How much roughly does it cost per year to maintain?

    Expanding transfer punch?

Sure - in my naivety, I was expecting around £15. I won't bother.

I can't stress enough how much I would love to have my own pool.

Are Grippers much safer than push sticks?

It might seem counterintuitive, but when using push sticks, you actually want to have the stick closer to the blade than to the fence (left side of center of the workpiece). This way, any induced rotation will rotate clockwise, pushing the work piece against the fence. If you do the opposite and...

Are Grippers much safer than push sticks?

I assume you wrote that in error. The featherboard should never push the workpiece against the blade. It should be in front of the blade.

Shaping the internal sides of boxes

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't have any dowel to hand (if only I had a lathe to turn some), but did have a round brush. Works really well for the sides and can even conform the abrasive to do areas at the bottom too. I like to hold the brush with one hand and slide the paper back and forth...

Has Oak shot up in price?

Here is a piece of some spindle stock I bought. Its as light as feather and you can see how fragile it is by all the torn grain from where its been cut. Lovely finish, but difficult to turn.

Has Oak shot up in price?

I find Chestnut to be much lighter in weight, and much more fragile/flaky/dusty. But I do agree, it does look a lot like Oak. I just go by the weight to tell them apart.

Has Oak shot up in price?

Given the current circumstances, I appreciate everything is more expensive as running costs are more expensive due to slower production, fewer staff etc. It just seemed that Oak had gone up by far more than any other species.

Has Oak shot up in price?

Has European Oak shot up in price lately? In regards to woodturning blanks, seems to be around the same price as Cherry these days :(

Are Grippers much safer than push sticks?

I stand by what I said in my first comment of this thread. I think a Gripper is better than nothing, but all you're doing is temporally guarding the blade whilst the jig is over the blade. Still lots of room for an accident where that blade has become fully exposed and now you're reaching over.
