Thanks The holes in the ply are oversized anyways to allow for adjustment. The square setting comes from aligning it and locking down with the washer/knob

There is another just out of shot on the left. They are there to have something to push against, else it would all slide forwards as you push the saw forwards. At least it does for me.

It's interesting that lots of replies suggest that it is the wheel material or the wheel center that is going to fail. But as I said in the first post, the failure point for me was the top section, where the ball bearings had fallen out.

I've done the same. You can also get flexible material that gives you a little play to account for minor measurement inaccuracies. Although I tend to introduce a slight narrowing between diameters which also does the same job.
