    Table saw safety

Pete, it was based on Japanese, UK, American, Canadian etc. I've not seen anyone NOT having their hand on the saw bench at one point or another and certainly behind the zero clearance slot.

    Table saw safety

Thanks for that, re: push sticks the quote says to use two 'in certain circumstances' not as a general rule. Maybe there's where confusion came when it was suggested to me. Hands 450mm from the guard/blade is the edge of the table. Is this something you do for all circumstances or rips in...

    Table saw safety

Recently I posted a thread and during the thread I had quite a lot of people giving strong advice that was well intentioned but actually misinformation and dangerous in itself. I was quoted HSE and told strongly to use 2 push sticks and never have your hand near the zero clearance slot...

    Smoking Startrite table saw

Sounds like the V12 engine test, will give it a go once I've finished. Thanks for the advice

That doesn't sound pretty. Ok, I 'll look around for a puller second hand for cheap and hold off on changing them until that time. It's usually when we try and do a job without the correct tool that stuff gets broken. I'm just looking to make the saw run as well as it can so it lasts me.

    Smoking Startrite table saw

*UPDATE* I didn't get much time with weekend solo parenting a toddler aka the brown bomber/sleep stealer. However, here's where I'm at. - Kept finding MDF (hate the stuff, should be banned IMO) clogged and caked everywhere it shouldn't be. Whilst sorting the belt setup I noticed it was caked in...

    Startrite T/A 145? motor upgrade

Thanks Jimmy, yea I saw that in a post so just cleaned everything down thoroughly and it's moving much better now.

    Smoking Startrite table saw

People pay more for a fair quality fence OR crown guard than I bought this working 240v saw for. Seems you should be in an online shopping forum or catalogue not a DIY forum; Riving guard - couple of hours. Crown, already built a free standing one, overhead, adjustable one. Dust extraction? How...

    Smoking Startrite table saw

I must have read the info wrong, I bought the gauge plate prior to machine spares idea. I stand corrected on that front. Yes totally a sellers market. I'm hoping bearing boys can do the bearings at a better price as they're £18 each on machine spares and I need two of them.

    Smoking Startrite table saw

People keep sending me links to these Startrite spares sites that charge £20 for a tiny spring, £100 for a riving knife, £165 for a blade guard - it's beyond ridiculous.

Thanks Martin, yes 2mm will be good for all my blade needs. Will take a look at your post.

Already said twice I got some gauge plate but thanks for the link.

    Smoking Startrite table saw

I did spin the spindle by hand without the blade and it didn't exactly feel that smooth so I'll order some more. It's a pain taking the top on and off so worth doing regardless. Still haven't tested the motor under load with a new blade yet so may do that and then take off the top again when the...

    Smoking Startrite table saw

No response to my email or anyone picking up all week so I bought some 2mm gauge plate. Money is tight anyways. Gave it a thorough cleaning and scrubbed the pulleys before tightening the motor the other way so it doesn't rub on the adjustment boss anymore. I ran it the saw for a few minutes and...

    Smoking Startrite table saw

Ok nice one, it's a Startrite 165 with original motor, 7.3a 1.5hp high 2000s rpm. I'm picking up imperial Allen keys today. Will also need to fashion a riving knife. Trying to source a manual to figure out the max blade capacity. I already have brand new 254mm Freud 42t and 60t blades from...

    Smoking Startrite table saw

I'm new to vintage saw repair/maintenance so you will have to bear with my lack of correct terminology. I mean, there is a bolt where I mentioned so you got what I was trying to say 🙃 I've been advised to adjust via the motor attachment, I'm thinking to take the moving parts off completely to...

    Smoking Startrite table saw

Will check that later once I have ascertained whether they're misaligned (see in the picture, it rubs on a bolt)

    Smoking Startrite table saw

Thanks for the helpful advice, I assumed it was possibly a bodge the owner had done seeing as the motor was sprayed and they didn't match the other bolts. Good to know, will purchase some imperial Allen keys, have loads of imperial sockets so no way there. It's funny as when I bought the full...
