Advice on mid size lathe please.

Cordy, same here. Coronet herald, lovely piece of kit, quite compact, a lot smaller than the ones I learnt on.

    Guns,guns, and more Guns

Have a look on guntrader to get an idea of prices. You then need to find someone who might want them. Unless they are rare and special I doubt that they're worth much.

    Repairs to butcher's block

The repair wouldn't worry me, but those brackets and fixings would drive me mad, they just scream cheap and nasty. If itvwere me, I'd get or make some simple steel angles, let them tarnish, fix with some big old rusty slotted woodscrew and seal the metal with BLO, that'd improve it no end.

Did you buy any cheap tools that surprised you with being actually good?

Aldi/lidl clamps, metal ones good, plastic pistol grip squeeze ones OK, just. Ditto a drill bit set, excellent vfm Best of all is their plastic handled pull saw, got two, use them all the time. Had some junk from there too which has gone straight back. Got a block plane from Axi that was 8ukp...

    Ww2 Records, Any tips?

Have a look on arrse. There's a section way down the forum lists about military history of military families. The knowledge on there is encyclopaedic. That said there doesn't look to be much in the way of badges etc to work Om, but you never know...

Do you own this simple dowel jig?

Yer right Geoff, hole numbering would be an excellent upgrade. Would certainly add a few percentage points on the ease of use scale. As someone said below it is an expensive tool, but after trying lots of other recommended options I got tired of things being done almost accurately.. and bit...

Do you own this simple dowel jig?

That's not going to be very flexible, and not easy to line up exactly. I use a joint genie. The JG lines up exactly, and gives you a lot more options re hole placement. Will be a lot more costly than the rutlands one. I think I've seen someone on YouTube make something similar to the the...

    I don’t want to build a workbench

Mine? Battens fixed to garage wall. Some vertical and horizontal members fixed thereto, and the lot topped off with cheapest ply I could find. I used some 3x3 in places so that I had plenty of 'meat' where I wanted to install the vice. Plenty of storage space underneath, I used up a lot of old...

    Lathe cleanup advice

I've got the RP one. I'm happy with it, runs smooth, seems well enough made for the money. The grinder ancillaries are plastic and basic, you going to have to buy or make your own jigs, unless you plan to sharpen free hand.

Rob, would you mind letting me know where this place is, as well. You and I are near neighbours, if it's close to me, I might take a wander to see what they've got.

Folks, no one wants to buy my ML8. I got a new lathe coming next week, I desperately need the space. Anyone want this free of charge? Collect only Southam , Warwickshire. You'll need help to load, I've had back surgery twice, not able to help with loading.
