    router jig for sign making

Bill, that looks good... I could have a crack at that technique. Do you mind me asking how much you had to do to gain that level of competency. I have the usual chisel sizes, but no carving tools... did you use anything other than chisels?

    router jig for sign making

Folks, thanks for advice, and CSM thank you for your kind offer. I plan to go the fret saw route and cut the letters through the board. I've done it before, a bit laborious in 20mm oak, but at least I can free hand the design. Thanks again for all the inputs.

    Lights in a bottle

Folks, I know it's not strictly a woodworking project, but I have a nice whisky bottle, and I want to put some form of lighting within it. It has a fairly wide opening, about 15 - 18mm where the Cork used to sit. I want to make it mains powered, has anyone got any ideas as to what sort of light...

    router jig for sign making

Thanks for replies folks, bearing in mind what blacktea says, I think I'll look at cutting the letters out withva fret saw. I didn't think about font type, and now that I have, I don't really want anything too uniform. Thanks again.

    router jig for sign making

Folks I want to make a name board for a grand child. Looking at the market place there are a number to choose from. Trend, Milescraft, Rutlands own brand, Rockler etc etc. Anyone got any experience of a particular product or can recommend something...? Any advice, as usual, gratefully received.

    Any interest to turners

When I bought my coronet herald, I spoke to RP about where it was made... China. That said some of their stuff is UK made, and they said they were in a process of bringing more manf back to the UK... which just goes to repeat what folks have said up thread. Can't comment on which products are...

    Coronet Herald and Tools advice

I looked at the supplied legs, but built my own bench. Advantages are you can build it to your own height, build in shelving for bits and pieces, and I've put racking at each end for my tools. It wasn't hugely expensive, I used a mix of decent timber and pallet wood. Beware though if you do...

Opinions on these ex-school workshop workbenches.

Looking a photos they appear very weighty work tops. But the legs dont look very substantial. If you buy one, I'd be looking to make some decent supports for the bench.

    wood movement cabinet top

Folks I will be making a cabinet for a friend to house all his remotes and TV boxes. It will sit on the floor in a CH room. Top will be 5in by 1in board edge glued to give me a top finishing around 2ft by 2ft. The board will be just softwood from my local yard, it'll be pine of some sort ...

    Netflix

Breaking Bad is good, but there is too much if it, it could be a series shorter. The follow on movie, El Camino is good. If its on Netflix, watch 'viiings' until ragnar becomes king, after that it's downhill for a season or two, then falls off a cliff thereafter. Again, if its on Netflix, watch...

    Head/tail alignment

How does that alignment tool fix the problem? I assume that once fitted it shows you how much and where you need to shim the tailstock? Otherwise when you remove the tool, everything reverts to beinng off centre again... am I right?

Why would I have a business CARD?

I make all my gift tags for Christmas and birthdays with wood. Good use of scraps of otherwise unusable timber. I drill a hole, thread through some of that green garden bio degradable twine and tell folks that the tag is eco friendly. In theory, they are reusable if you went to the trouble of...

    Work bench design

I'd put the lower ongitudinal rails inside the legs rather than outside. Or at least do it with the one along the 'working edge' of the bench. It'll get in the way of your feet/ankles/shins if you don't.

    Wood flour

Advice here is right. Don't bother buying make your own. I keep a couple of tins of tins of different species for their different colours. Use a good abrasive though, cheap ones mean your 'flour' will get get contaminated with loose grit from the abrasives. Not usually a visual problem, but...

How to dismantle a Stannah stairlift

I dismantled one, it wasn't a stannah, but be aware that the chair is very heavy indeed. I took out the batteries and all the extraneous stuff I could, and it still took two of us to move it.

    preserving shine on copper

Gentles all, I'm making a table lamp out of an old class Apothecaries jar or something. I'm using copper pipe inside the jar as conduit to take the flex down from the lamp holder and out the bottom. I've polished this up and got it lovely and shiny. Question; How can I keep the copper shining...

    In praise of great companies.

Workshop heaven is one of the best traders I have ever interacted with. In my experience, Matthew puts customer service first and foremost, I would not hesitate to trade with WH, and recomendd it to others.
