Axminster table saw sliding fence 'lubricator'

Gentles all I have an Axi table saw, and the alloy fence runs on an alloy track at the front of the saw. Smooth movement of the track is facilitated by some (looks like PTFE) tapes affixed to the under side of the fence slider. These move and wear out and lose their stickiness over time... any...

Just an update, and thanks to those who responded to my questions of earlier in this thread. I've got my self another Henry hose to replace the thinner dia one that was attached to the saw. Now my primary and secondary hoses are the same internal Diameter. I got a chap called Dan Goodier to...

    12" compound mitre saw

I've got the smaller makita cross cut saw. Had it for 8 or 9 years. Heavy DIY use. Excellent product. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new makita. Glides in and out smoothly. Cuts dead square. Only issues are that the laser gave up a few months ago, and soft start would be really nice. Providing...

    Electric vehicles

Manufacturers will do what is most profitable for them. I have no idea of the price of EVs, but if the battery really is half the cost of a new car, who is going to buy a 9 year old car knowing that within 12 months thet will have to spend 10 or 20k on it. The car in that instance will be...

    Electric vehicles

An acquaintance of mine , who works for an electric car manufacturer tells me that the batteries are about half the cost of the car. They will last about ten years he tells me. If he is right then electric cars are going to be a liability that no one wants at around 9 years of age. They will be...

Best fixings for Breeze Block (or at least that’s what I call it)

Ps, another vote for Fischer-Dieskau, they do some marvellous products for different types of material.

Best fixings for Breeze Block (or at least that’s what I call it)

Depending on what the battens will be used for.. if I get a crumbling of the material, which renders the hole too big or irregularly shaped, in the past I've filled the hole with polyfiller and set the plug in that, wait for it to dry before inserting the screw. Its always seemed to work though...

    Best way to store planes?

Phil, re the magnet trick, I've been doing that for years and it seems to work. That said I always wear welingtons when planing, to ensure that I am not earthed, that may also be having a beneficial effect.

What was your favorite sweets when you were a nipper

Not sweets, but I used to eat them like sweets - the old Victory V lozenges. Anyone remember Jublees, just a waxed cardboard pyramidal package coating flavoured ice,, like a huge lump of ice lolly.

Bowed cupped lid - is this fixable?

Yep, leave it for a bit to settle down. I made an oak bread bin last year, the top bowed significantly, but after a while it went back to , almost, its original shape and I was able to sort it. Give it some time, it might start to behave itself.

    Mitre Saw

Makita ls0714ln. Entry level makita, I think. Not the biggest, could do with soft start. Had it for 10 years, absolutely flawless, cuts dead square and leaves the wood as smooth as glass. Supplied blade is/was excellent. Laser packed up couple of months ago, otherwise no complaints at all, and...

    Homemade cyclone extractor.

Here's a photo. The primary hose is a standard Henry vac hose. I'm running the Henry without a bag. You can see the relief holes I've drilled in the lid, without those I think the bin would collapse, even though it is a pretty sturdy plastic. The secondary hose is 25mm internal diameter. It is...

    Homemade cyclone extractor.

Inspired by folks comments on here I bought one of the Chinese cyclones, same as those pictured earlier. Its is connected to a Henry, but the results I have achieved today are pitiful. I would estimate that a third to a half of the dust is getting past the cyclone and into the vac, I have a...
