    Fence supplier advice needed.. please

Hi I need to put up new fencing around my garden in West London. I'm having real difficulties trying to source good quality panels, concrete posts and gravel boards with delivery that is not extortionate. I want 9 x 5ft (high) 6ft (wide) hit 'n' miss, 6 closed board panels of the same...

    Wood filler

Titebond does dry dark when doing this type of repair. Use water thin super glue and wood dust. If you buy the GluBoost products the activator doesn't froth up and you can keep working on it straight away until you get the results you want. The UK dealer is ToneTech, it is very expensive though...

Apple AirTags Used To Find Stolen Tools?

As I understand it the tag doesn't show up on the thief's phone or any other devices apart from the owner of the said tag. It will use local bluetooth anonymously to alert the owner where the item is in the "Find My" app. Batteries last a year, I've put one in all of my expensive guitars in...

Your worst accident or near miss

I suppose I had a woodworking related injury but it manifested itself much later. I was building two storage sheds in my garden. Like a numpty I had 6 sheets of 8 x 4, 18mm ply, precariously leaning against a wall and to cut a long story short they fell and pinned the back of my leg behind my...

Advice on how to remove "sharpie" writing on a guitar case please?

Hi Naptha (Lighter Fluid) is pretty good, it's also good for removing crud on guitars as it doesn't harm the finish. Isopropyl alcohol normally works with Sharpies as I sometimes get it on sound desks at work after labelling and it comes off fine G

Boarding loft and loft ladder advice

Hi Doug I just fitted one of these this weekend Loft ladder clickFIX® thermo comfort Not cheap but really well made, good instructions and took me about 6 hours to fit all in. I bought an extra hand rail so that my wife is comfortable using it. Bought mine from the Loft Centre and saved...

    Fitting a ceiling light.

Sounds like it was a split board. The lighting circuit is independent so that if there's a fault in the main rings/radials the lights stay on so that you're not plunged into darkness. The lights will have their own separate breaker

Mounting a bracket - advice required please

I used Torx Frame fitting Masonry screws when I installed my front door, never used them before but they were brilliant. I'm probably gonna get shot down in flames for stating the obvious, but I was taught a long time ago when drilling walls, especially old ones, NOT to start with the hammer...

    New music

If you like good guitar players try the Bros. Landreth, Let it Lie is a good starter album. Also Jason Isbell is a favourite at present, his album Southeastern is a good example of his abilities as a singer/songwriter/guitar player

    Les Paul Style Guitar Build

Looking good thus far, can't wait to hear it. If you are going to pot the pickups in wax it'll stop the covers squealing at high volumes. My 71 LP Deluxe used to do that until I potted them. It has the old Epiphone mini humbuckers which I rewired with 4 conductor wire, and replaced the tone pots...

    Les Paul Style Guitar Build

I personally think a standard re-fret (unbound rosewood board) should take 2 -3 hours at least, and more depending on whether it's bound and what problems get thrown up, and in a modern age if you're paying for a skilled luthier to do it £60 an hour is not unreasonable + materials. VW charge me...

    Les Paul Style Guitar Build

Nice job thus far looking forward to seeing (and hearing) the end result. I recently replaced the fingerboard on my 1972 LP Deluxe that I've had since I was a kid. The reason being an ***** re-fretted it years ago and for whatever reason planed the fingerboard, which destroyed two of the inlays...
