How I charged an old removable mobile phone battery

Yeah my battery charger won't sense a totally dead battery. Another way to get it to kick into life is to get a 9V PP3 (MN1604) and wire it across the terminals with the charger clips in place and it springs into life, obviously remove the PP3 😀

    Parkside speed clamps

I've bought quite a few in the past and all of them fail eventually. Better off buying "pro" clamps IMHO

Looking for old, wide board of true mahogany

Do you have Brazilian Rosewood for the fingerboard? I presume you're making a Junior or a Special? Be nice to see the finished item and some construction videos. Good luck

Old Shipwreck found on beach Orkney

It uses your IP address I believe to establish geography. To get around it use a VPN (Virtual Private Network), you can then pretend to be anywhere in the world.

    Mold

We had black mould keep occurring in our bathroom around the shower. My fault really as I'd put a PIR extractor in and turned it off as the noise drove me crazy. Replaced it with a "silent" (hmmm) humidistat extractor that ramps up speed according to moisture levels, which has been brilliant.

Can't find the water valve in the street. Any ideas?

I had similar to you last year, still can't find the outside stopcock but I did find a solution that I hope may help. Clean off all the paint and crud using a paint stripper or heat. On the top of the internal stopcock you should find a smaller nut (the gland nut) on the shaft below the handle...

    Kity K5 combi machine

Possibly the smoothing/supressor cap has gone short circuit? Disconnect one leg, and see if it runs with the earth on. You should really get someone savvy with electrics to have a look. Be careful.

Royal Mail - complete ban on bladed items from 22nd April

I had an interesting one with the Post Office the other week. It was a "special" birthday for my sister so I took her present to the local PO to get guaranteed delivery. She lives at 31 'Whatever Rd', and I've sent things there before. The lady behind the counter said that the gift would be...

Went for an NHS colonoscopy yesterday..

I had an amusing time on mine last year.... Having gone through the 'fun' prep of Picolax and white food, I then go to hospital for the procedure. Having negotiated half of my colon there's a sudden hiatus and hectic scrambling with hushed voices going on in the operating room behind me. My wife...

URGENT - please read this - scam alert

I'm with HSBC and they're pretty good. Every 15 or so contactless transactions require a PIN, which can be frustrating but at least I'm being looked after. Also if I'm making a purchase and it doesn't follow a usual pattern on my profile they'll ring up and ask me if I'm where the card says I...

    It never happens in Europe!

Why don't they just buy another set of wheels and have them swapped?

    Canabis farms

I'm not sure tobacco is these days, there's a lot less smokers than there were when I was a kid. Alcoholism is rife and has to be No.1 now. There's a whole tsunami of health problems on the horizon due to "casual drinking". I had a very interesting chat with my GP about this last year and he...

What’s the very best caulk / sealant / adhesive

I follow a guy on Twitter (X) Gary Burton. He's a professional painter and decorator but in a different class to most (light blue touch paper). He often posts tips about paints, sealants, caulking materials etc. His restoration of Victorian plaster cornices and roses is fascinating...

    Salt and pepper mill mechanisms

This has been a bugbear of mine for years. Lidl had a great pair of ceramic grinders for about £9 which worked beautifully for about 2 years then the plastic connecting rod broke. I've tried Cole & Mason they weren't great, In the end I bit the bullet and bought Peugeot grinders. The pepper...

I've got about 65 planes on or near my stairs. It's my own fault for leaving the landing light on......

    Electric vehicles

My colleague's Tesla refused to start one morning. Seems there was a bank **** up on the lease payments and wouldn't move until it was sorted.
